🧱LAYING FOUNDATIONS: BEFORE I DO🧱

Before you ask whether you have found the one, ask yourself a harder question. Would you marry you?

We live in a culture obsessed with finding the right person. But scripture spends time on Adam alone with God before Eve ever enters the picture. He had purpose. He had relationship with his Creator. Wholeness came before companionship.

Here is the truth most people avoid. Every human being has needs they cannot live without. Acceptance, affirmation and appreciation. And when we make a partner the primary source of those needs, we set them up to fail us and we set ourselves up to be constantly disappointed.

God never designed a human being to carry what only he can carry. When he is your source first, you can actually love your partner freely instead of draining them dry.

So before you say I do, do the inner work. Build your relationship with God. Develop your purpose. Submit to godly authority. Grow spiritually, emotionally and mentally. Personal development is not holding up your marriage. It is preparing you for it.

Save this. Send it to someone preparing their heart for forever.

GOD’S WILL OVER OURS

We spend so much energy asking God to bless our own plans.

But this excerpt from Baesics by Ernest and Waturi Wamboye says something that should stop us. There is a blessedness in having God’s will for your life. But there is a horror in God simply letting you have your own way instead.

Think about that. Sometimes the scariest answer God can give you is not no. It is silence. It is stepping back and letting you build a life entirely out of your own understanding.

Romans 12:2 does not describe God’s will as restrictive. It describes it as good, pleasing and perfect. Not good for God. Good for you.

So the next time you are frustrated that a door has not opened, or a plan has not worked out the way you wanted, pause before you push harder. It might be God protecting you from your own paths, not withholding from you.

His will is not a cage. It is the safest place you could possibly be.

In my estimation while working with families in the ministry, I can’t help but note that you can be a great dad to your children but a horrible husband to your wife. However, I find it uncommon to find a person who is a great husband to their wife and is a horrible father to their child. I’m not ruling out the possibility of such a rarity. It could exist. But exceptions don’t make the rules. If you are unkind to your wife, consider the fact that your children derive a degree of satisfaction (from life and from you) by seeing their mother happy. In short, you have not come full circle in being a good father until you treat the mother of your children with kindness. Also consider that treating your wife with dignity and consideration could very well be the only marriage school that your children may attend. And of course the inverse is true- a woman may be a great mom but a horrible wife. Whichever the case, God will hold spouses accountable for how they modelled love and tenderness in the home.

Romans 14:10b “You, then, why do you judge your brother or sister? Or why do you treat them with contempt? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat.” (NIV)

2 Corinthians 5:10 “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.” (NIV) by @wwamboye

The 14th wedding anniversary is the ivory anniversary and it represents strength and stability.

We turn 14 today 🥳🥳🥳 and with every milestone comes with reflection. My reflection today comes from a grateful heart. A grateful heart for a foundation built on Christ, the author of marriage. Grateful for my husband @ewamboye who loves me the 1 Cor 13 way: He is patient, kind, does not envy or boast and is not proud. He does not dishonor others, is not self seeking, not easily angered and keeps no record of wrongs. He does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. How? He is submitted to Jesus who is love. Therefore the love in our marriage always protects, always trusts, always hopes and always preserveres.

The secret? Prayer! My husband wakes up early and the first thing he does is going on His knees for me, our children and the burdens of friends, family, our ministry, the nation and world affairs. We fight our battles through prayer. We pray on it- pray over it and pray through it.

We are a team because of our knees and a surrendered heart to Jesus. May this year continue to strengthen and stabilize us in prayer and deeper commitment to each other!

I love you @ewamboye and I look forward to so many years with you mi querido 😘😘😘. I am washed by the Word of God by you and remain the wife of your youth. ❤️🔥❤️JET (Jesus- Ernie- Turi) FOR LIFE!

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

Exactly one year ago, my wife @wwamboye and I extended our ministry to the Indian community in Kenya. We had been meeting individual Indians for one-on-one ministry and at times helping solve marital conflict. These Indians approached us while we were serving the LORD and we helped them personally. The amazing thing about ministering to people from different cultures is seeing that our problems are really all the same- caused by sin. Last year, one couple we had hosted in our home a few times invited us to their house. They asked if they could bring more of their Indian friends to benefit from our ministry as they had benefited from us. We said yes. They cooked Indian cuisines and set a date. They invited several couples (some Christian and some not) and we met. We had a wonderful time in July last year, sharing the gospel and opening up about the highs and lows of our own marital journey. It was meant to be one meeting until the couples in attendance asked when the next meeting was. And several nexts later has become one year today. We have consistently met these couples once a month. We have shared great memories with them. Our children have become friends. We have taught them the word of God and encouraged them to love their spouses as Christ loves the Bride of Christ. We have seen their painful moments and their happy moments. The group has also challenged other Indians to form Married Couples Care Groups (MCCG). The amazing thing is how some of the family members of these couples have been blessed from our monthly meeting. Turi and I have had the benefit of meeting some of the family members on the side and we can truly say that the LORD Jesus loves Indians- whether Punjabi, Gujarati, or Goan). by @wwamboye
