🎞️ Beyond the Frame, opening Friday 9 October at the Bath House Gallery, Sovereign Design House 🎞️

We are delighted to be collaborating with @wypw and artists Rozi Fuller, Layla Jabbari and Emma Jackson on a new exhibition, Beyond the Frame: Printmaking in Dialogue with Film.

The exhibition explores what happens when printmaking meets film, photography and the moving image. This is a great opportunity to see a selection of work by three artists who are rethinking what printmaking can do. Blending risograph, Tetrapak and monoprinting with film, animation and Augmented Reality, these artists move fluidly between processes and media to explore new ways of making and presenting printed and moving images.

This exhibition has been produced by West Yorkshire Print Workshop as part of the University of Huddersfield’s Cultures of Film programme.

Intro to: Screen Printing onto Textiles 2 day course with @karen_stansfield_art taking place on
Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th November 2026
10am – 4pm

Ever wondered how to translate your artwork on to fabric? Join us for an introductory, weekend workshop getting to grips with the technicalities of screen printing onto textiles.

This 2-day, hands-on course will cover the whole screen-printing process – from how to plan and prepare a 2 colour image/design, expose it onto screens using the photo-emulsion process and then print and fix your design onto fabric so it can be made into things and washed.

Screen printing is a highly versatile, stencil based technique that allows an endless variety of marks to be printed – bold solid areas of colour, delicate line drawings, text, texture and photographic images. The screen itself is a fine-mesh fabric stretched taut over a frame through which ink is then forced resulting in a print.

Working with water-based inks you’ll have the opportunity to experiment with color mixing, tailoring each shade to complement your creative vision! Throughout the workshop, you’ll be practising your newfound skills on plain cotton fabric but post-workshop, armed with a solid understanding of the basics, you’ll be equipped to print on various products like t-shirts and tote bags as well as using the fabric you create to make all sorts of textile outcomes.

A great workshop for hobbyists, those looking to learn a new skill or perhaps those interested in starting a new textile product business! This workshop will cover the basic knowledge that will serve as a solid start to follow up with WYPW membership and continue your practice.

WYPW members recently enjoyed a fantastic trip to Cooper Gallery in Barnsley to see Studio Prints: Creative Collaboration, an exhibition exploring the relationship between artists and printmaking studios.
The exhibition brings together work produced by artists at some of London’s most influential printing studios, offering a fascinating insight into the collaborative and technical processes behind contemporary and modern printmaking.
From the late 1960s, the workshop established by Dorothea Wight and Marc Balakjian became a creative home for Britain’s most acclaimed print artists, including Lucian Freud, Frank Auerbach, Stephen Conroy and Celia Paul.

Throughout the printmaking process, Wight and Balakjian worked closely with the artists, combining their specialist technical knowledge with each artist’s individual approach. The resulting works demonstrate the skill, experimentation and close collaboration involved in producing highly detailed and technically accomplished prints.
For our WYPW members, the exhibition provided a particularly interesting opportunity to explore the relationship between artist and printer. It highlighted how printmaking can be a collaborative process, with studio printers playing an important role in translating an artist’s ideas into a finished print.
It was also fascinating to see the different approaches, techniques and processes used across the works in the exhibition. The visit offered plenty of inspiration and provided a great opportunity to consider the technical possibilities of printmaking outside the WYPW studio.
A big thank you to Exhibitions Officer Naomi, who gave us a really insightful tour of the exhibition. We learnt more about the artists, the history of the studios and the different ways they worked with printers to create these exquisite works.
We had a brilliant day and would highly recommend a visit to Studio Prints: Creative Collaboration at Cooper Gallery in Barnsley before the exhibition closes on 31 October 2026
