I know authors shouldn't have favourites, but Emri might just be my favourite character in Born of Malice. He is loyal and devoted to Zal and although soft-spoken and slow to anger, he carries a seething darkness within him due to a lot of childhood trauma. I do love creating tortured souls ๐Ÿ˜† My Afrocentric dark fantasy novel is available wherever you buy books. #Bookstagram #bookworm #bookish #amreading #africanbooks @ruadanbooks by @xan_writer

Lego used to stand on my shoulder so he could reach my ears, so this seemed the perfect placement for his precious toe beans. Thank you @millasipola ๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฅฐ by @xan_writer

Congratulations to Xan van Rooyen on the publication of Born of Malice, out now with Ruadaฬn Books! Set in an explosive new world inspired by a fusion of South African and Finnish mythology, Born of Malice is a queer dark fantasy of epic stakes, where old gods walk among mortals, magic is under threat and a god-sized sibling rivalry could bring entire worlds to ruin. In the ancient city of Savat, the tyrannical Sodality is determined to replace magic with technology and eradicate devotion to the old gods. But with Chaos seeking revenge, War plotting destruction, Nightmare desperate to escape her family, and a scholar on the verge of making magic accessible to anyone, reality itself is beginning to fracture. If that sounds like your next favourite read, be sure to check out the virtual launch of BORN OF MALICE - happening October 4th at 2pm - - link in our stories! Xan is represented by Clara Chuiton. by @xan_writer
