I still cannot believe we did Gargantua Cave, definitely one of the most insane adventures yet! Pretty happy to see sunlight after 5 hours too! ...We woke up at 6:00am, warmed up by the fire, ate some breakfast and double checked all our gear. Took the side by side and truck to the trail head (7km up a backroad/riverbed) then we started the hike at 9:00. 4km hike with 1000m elevation gain turns out to be more like one big climb. We tried to find as much shade as we could once the tree line disappeared but luckily came across a creek to dunk our heads and fill up on water. We continued hiking to the cave entrance where we geared up, said goodbye to the sun and started our journey into the heart of the mountain. We navigated through the cave using a compass and a map. 6 repels, 286m decent into the mountain, I’ve never seen anything like it. We continued along the cave for 5hrs until we finally went through the exit called “The Birth Canal Exit”. 7ft of an awkward squeeze into a crawl then we finally saw daylight. Crawled out the waterfall which was mostly dry this time of summer. Felt one big wave of dopamine, euphoria and relief once we made it out. Safe to say, I will definitely be doing that cave again! ...Thank you @trueoutdoors for the new Petzl NAO-RL 1500 lumen headlamp! It was amazing having what felt like a floodlight in the cave to light up the giant caverns. Happy Father’s Day to the love of my life, my high school sweetheart, the father of our beautiful children, my lover, and my partner in adventure, exploration, and mischief.Our love has seen its share of highs and lows, moments of truth and challenge, seasons of fire, loss, and rebirth.
