Yesterday marked one year since an accident left me without an ACL.

And one year later, I’m genuinely so happy that I made the decision not to have surgery and instead commit to my own rehabilitation, looking for information, support and guidance from people who had been through the same thing and had also managed to recover without surgery. Thank you @no.acl.needed and Shani for being part of that journey. ❤️

I’m so proud of everything I’ve achieved over this past year. I kept the promise I made to myself to get back to Olympic weightlifting. I started running again. And, most importantly, I learned to trust my body again.

Today, I’m also incredibly grateful for something I used to take for granted: having two legs that carry me wherever I want to go and allow me to train, run and do all the things that make me happy.

Sometimes it takes something happening to us to realise how valuable the things we normally take for granted really are. To simply be healthy, to be able to move, to train, to do the things we love.

An injury can leave us feeling unmotivated, sad and completely defeated. But giving up was never an option for me.

From the very beginning, I found ways to keep doing what I could. I would go to the box on crutches if I had to. My training partners would hand me a dumbbell or the barbell when I couldn’t pick it up myself. And little by little, I found ways to keep training around my injury.

With perseverance, consistency and discipline, I stuck to my rehabilitation and kept working towards getting back what I thought I had lost.

One year later, I can only feel grateful.
For my body. For my two legs. For everything they allow me to do. And for never giving up. 🖤
