Visiting Samarkand was a powerful reminder of how architecture can transcend centuries.

The scale, geometry, intricate craftsmanship and timeless blue mosaics are extraordinary — but what impressed me most was how deeply the architecture is connected to faith, identity and the strength of a culture.

Buildings created centuries ago still communicate permanence, devotion and ambition today.

Ceramics are one of those materials that seem to follow humanity through time.

For thousands of years, we have shaped clay, glazed it, colored it, and turned it into something we want to surround ourselves with — from everyday objects to places of worship, palaces and, today, luxury interiors.

What struck me recently was seeing almost the same intense blue twice in one day: first in the Tiffany store at Istanbul Airport, and later across the tiled façades of Samarkand’s Registan Square.

The contexts could hardly be more different. One is contemporary, polished and commercial; the other carries centuries of history, craftsmanship and spiritual meaning.

And yet the attraction is remarkably similar.

That luminous glazed blue still catches the eye. It still feels precious. We still use ceramics to create beauty, identity and a sense of permanence.

Different centuries, different cultures, different meanings — but the same human desire to turn earth into something extraordinary. by @xeniarchitecture

YOU DIDN’T CHOOSE THE WRONG COLOR.
YOU CHOSE THE WRONG LIGHT.

3000K vs 4000K can completely change how the exact same material feels.

Too warm. Too grey. Too yellow. Too cold. Suddenly the “perfect” sample doesn’t look perfect anymore.

And this is only one of dozens of decisions that can make an interior feel right—or make an expensive renovation look off.

Good design is not choosing beautiful things. It’s making sure everything works together.

Want to avoid expensive design mistakes? Start with the light.

That “perfect” colour you chose in the showroom?
It may look completely different once it enters your home.

Daylight, warm LED, cool LED — each source changes how we perceive the same surface.

These are the same EGGER finishes, photographed under different lighting. Same material. Different result.

And this is exactly why interior design is not just about choosing beautiful colours.

My job is to anticipate how colour, materials and lighting will actually behave together in your space — before the kitchen is produced, the wardrobes are installed or the wrong finish becomes an expensive mistake.

The best design decisions are often the details you never have to think about.

A new beginning for a traditional stone house in Montenegro.

We started by surveying and mapping the existing ruins. Next, we’ll analyse the site’s potential and develop a reconstruction concept that respects its original character.
