Tsaigu Trail is making a play to become a premier end of season event.🔥

Hosted in Linhai City, China, many of the world’s best athletes will compete across 25k, 50k, and 100k distances.

A few key stories to watch:

— Jim Walmsley returns to racing for the first time since an injury induced DNF at Western States in June
— Normally a long course specialist, Courtney Dauwalter will race the 50k
— Tove Alexandersson and Remi Bonnet headline the 50k looking for redemption after DNS and DNF respectively at OCC
— China vs. The World: Will an impressive collection of local talent carry home field advantage or will the Europeans and Americans run away with it?

We’ll cover all these storylines on Monday’s show. taken in Linhai City, china by @xiang.fuzhao

Chamonix Route Name: Aiguille d‘Entreves Traverse

The alpine ascents have gifted me the thrill and freedom of exploration. I feel like a bird, soaring toward those forested ridges and summits that were always meant for me.

@xiang.fuzhao introduction to the @arcteryx team. Stoked to finally share a few personal favourites from this one.

An awesome few days exploring some incredible places, chasing light, filling memory cards and creating alongside a crew that worked hard to bring it all to life.

Some old friends, plenty of new ones, lots of laughs along the way, and such a pleasure getting to know and photograph Fuzhao. Loved the energy she brought to every part of this one. by @xiang.fuzhao

My two-week mountaineering course in Chamonix has come to an end. The first week I learned mountaineering, and the second week was rock and ice climbing. These three disciplines of climbing gave me a brand-new understanding of mountaineering and laid a solid foundation for my future ascents.

During my stay here, I felt like I was back at school. Six of us shared one room, and we got along really well. Everyone was so friendly, whether we were training in the mountains or in daily life. I haven’t lived in a group setting for more than ten years. It feels amazing to be a student again.

I studied alongside mountain lovers from all over the world. We speak different languages and come from different cultures, yet we gather here, connected by the mountains. It’s such a precious bond.

These two weeks not only brought back the feeling of being a student, but also taught me practical mountaineering skills. Still, I know this is only the beginning. There is so much more for me to learn.

In previous years, I came to Chamonix every year just for trail races. This year, after the race, I learned so much. This experience is incredibly valuable. Chamonix is the birthplace of alpine climbing and modern mountaineering. Learning in this sacred place of mountains means a lot to me.

I met a group of like-minded, lovely yet rigorous partners. In the mountains, we have to stay serious and disciplined. Safety is a matter of life and death, and we must respect nature. At the same time, we all carry the spirit of adventure, eager to explore the unknown wilderness.

Next time I come back, I hope to learn ski mountaineering. This learning journey concludes today. Farewell, my friends. Hope we meet again in the mountains.

This year, I stepped onto the UTMB starting line with so many unknowns. My coache actually advised me against taking part in this race. Yet I have always believed you will never know the outcome unless you give it a try.

So I travelled to Chamonix and followed my planned training schedule. My overall running volume was moderate, and every arrangement was designed to prioritise my body’s recovery.

One week before race day, I made this somewhat impulsive call to race — my injury had not fully healed. My team respected my final decision, and we reached an agreement: I would run as far as the U3 Les Contamines, then we would jointly decide whether to keep going based on how my body held up.

Just as we had anticipated, I reached U3 after covering 32 kilometres. This marked my longest run since the Western States.

Every kilometre on the trail, along with the entire lead‑up to the race, was a battle. A struggle with my own mind, and a fight against injury. I have no regrets about choosing to start.

Pure willpower might have carried me further, all the way towards Courmayeur or Champex. But reason told me I must not push past my limits. When your body says stop, you need the courage to heed it.

Dropping out is the last thing any athlete wants to do. I am sorry I could not live up to everyone’s expectations for a stronger result. Still, for the sake of my long‑term athletic career, we made this considered choice to stop here.

Let us all keep moving forward. We can get better, and I will absolutely be back. by @xiang.fuzhao

Preparation can look a lot like patience.

Fuzhao Xiang (@xiang.fuzhao) arrives in Chamonix finding the balance between recovery and readiness after her effort at Western States.

Different paths to the same week. A few more kilometres before the start line.
