Such a privilege to speak w Natalie, Misha, and Rafael last month on the future of the art industry and the increased poignancy of independent projects. As supplements to the existing system, strategically engineered external initiatives have the power to bridge cultural institutions together and further fine art’s impact in our already expansive cultural ecosystem. Ping me if you’re curious on how I see these shaping up :) Onwards & upwards! by @xndr.a

summer — an ephemeral elusive love. dinners al fresco. time and sunlight slipping through your fingers. conversations both scholarly and absurd with old friends and new contemporaries. tannersville waterfalls and empty beaches in the north fork. meandering paths, electric nights, and somewhere, an open window with a sly breeze, forever reminding us of the change to come. by @xndr.a
venezia croatia slovenia 2 months ago for the opening week of the biennale. remembering….the romance of every meal, multichannel video works stationed in the old church, the ramp to sea at the nudist colony, the kind horses we met on the road to ljubljana when we pulled over as i was mid-allergy attack, my exhilarating run along the coastline of rovinj on the only morning it wasn’t pouring rain. matthew wong’s solo show at palazzo tiepolo passi and nearly every pavilion (ESP Italy, Denmark, Mongolia). missing… the aimless wandering through the streets of each city, never quite knowing where we’d end up or who we’d find. by @xndr.a

I fell in love with the tiny paintings at Kenjiro Okazaki’s retrospective. Like The Northern Lights or a car zipping up the ledges of the Hollywood Hills, they capture a smooth intensity of color and movement. Like Whitten and even Richter before him, Okazaki has realized an insane dramatic nuance with his composition that practically sings on the canvas — collapsing the boundaries between planes of color, bringing forth entirely new zones of sight. Each portion of the painting, a portal. by @xndr.a
