Another Tulum season for the books 🌱

Year 3 of calling this special little corner of the world my home base.

I love that silly little thing the universe does when you trust that feeling that something’s calling you to new places. You end up finding magic in the uncertainty, a sense of home in places you once didn’t know, friendships you’d choose over and over again—and apparently, two tiny dogs while you’re at it ‪‪❤︎‬ taken in Tulum, México by @xokenya

Unrequested highlight of my year: my little nugget of joy, Nairobi Lopez 🐾
 Never in a million years did I imagine the dog mom life for me. I grew up terrified of dogs… but I guess part of adulthood is finding love and peace where trauma once lived.

Thank you for teaching me to enjoy the present moment just that much more, my sweet girl. I hope your puppy eyes see me as a loving, patient, and playful mom. Being a single working mom is hard work—I’m not sure how my mom did it, but I guess some generational curses die hard hahah.

September 2024 is forever a core memory in my heart. I spent the month in my home state in Mexico, where I was born and raised, with the intention to reconnect with my roots and hug my inner child.

Having spent much of my life as an undocumented immigrant in the U.S., unable to visit home, I used to romanticize returning, unaware of the grief that accompanies the realization that pieces of what once made this place feel like home will never be physically present again.

I spent much of my time alone, thinking of how proud my grandpa would be of my mom and how deeply he would believe in my dreams of one day bringing my work with underserved youth to Mexico.

I left with much peace in my heart. Still tons of grief, yet with a strong sense that everything and everyone who has shaped who I am today is always with me. I didn’t necessarily plan for my time here to align with the most patriotic time of year, but I like to think the universe had a reason for it ☺️🕊️🇲🇽❤️

April was a special one. My biggest tasks these days are being a mom to a scholarship program for some of the dopest students in South Central LA and to this precious little creature who reminds me everyday that it is the little mundane day to day moments in life that make this human existence one hell of a gift. 🐾🎓🪐 by @xokenya
