I gave this jewelry box new life with an old favored tale from childhood… a journey into Wonderland.

Its sides open like a storybook, its distressed finish reminiscent of beloved pages read again and again. Inside, gold honors the glow of childhood imagination, while secret compartments keep treasures we share only with those we trust.

The keyhole invites curiosity, and the rabbit keeps a hidden key… because every good story leaves a little magic waiting to be discovered.

The Cheshire Cat appeared beneath my hand, one pencil line at a time. I caught him on paper just before he vanished off to cause a little more mischief. 🐈‍⬛✨#artist #illistrator #illustration #cheshirecat #charcoalpencil by @xolulularue

Once upon a time, my grandfather had a library so large that, to a child, it seemed it might hold every story ever told.

I would sit quietly while he researched and wrote his Sunday sermons, my eyes drifting from the bookshelves to the stacks of papers on his desk. I was certain something extraordinary was hidden among them, if only I knew where to look.

After church on Sundays, we were sent to nap in my grandparents’ room. But the closet door was always open just a crack, revealing rows of my grandmother’s wigs resting on mannequin heads. To me, they looked like a gathering of mysterious ladies waiting for us to fall asleep.

I have always believed that magic hides just beyond plain sight…in a shelf of books, behind a half open door, inside an ordinary box.

So I’m turning this old jewelry box into a treasure chest of secrets, inspired by a story about another little girl who couldn’t help becoming curiouser and curiouser. Every piece of original artwork on it is drawn by my own hand…and the distressed look is a nod to things that still haunt us from childhood and make us a treasure tome of stories 🐇 🗝️📚 by @xolulularue

Pt 2 of the mushroom whimsy. First time using air dry clay. Pros: Art is fun! Non-toxic. Cons: Clay starts to dry immediately leaving very little time to make adjustments and add details. Have to be more patient between layers of paint, because air dry seems to get a little mushy when overly saturated. Making more of these incense night lights, but going to try a different medium. #Airdryclay by @xolulularue

🍄 Working with air dry clay for the first time and so far, I prefer oven baked!!! Stay tuned for Pt 2… #clayartwork❣️I am using @ourohermetica incense from her Aphrodite fragrance collection during this art session. I’m quite obsessed with how beautiful it smells and how long it burns ❤️‍🔥 by @xolulularue
