it’s been a while hasn’t it? ⊹ ࣪ ˖

goodness, words can’t describe how robotic i’ve felt this past week. from moving into my new apartment to starting classes again, running around campus for meetings, and just trying to stay afloat.

don’t get me wrong, i LOVE being back in my own space, but the adjustment was tough! i ended up having to drop some classes and replace them just to ensure i could still have time to function as a human (eating regularly) and have time to myself (other than my clubs and courses).

as this week wraps up and i follow-through with this weekend, i have some ideas already planned out to share with you guys—like what books i brought with me!!

despite the chaos around me, i have been trying to peek around here and there with this community. books have always been a way for me to relax and find a sense of comfort in the hurricane, so i am doing my best to make the time for this love of mine — one we all seem to share!

until then, i’ll be soaking up some pages i have been dying to read 📖🐛

xoxo,

ahh!! new additions to my shelves (or really, my TBR) ⊹ ࣪ ˖ ໒꒱

now i’ve been so excited to share these—they’ve been on my mind since i got them! the books on slides 2 and 4 have been gifted from my boss, who is an avid reader as well. the other book was a quick snag from target after my first day of work this summer haha!

well, it may be a bit until these get read and covered, but they aren’t too far off the priority list LOL 🌟 if you’ve read any of these, definitely shout out your thoughts!! i welcome each and everything hehe

p.s. tried out a new editing style! it’s not too much on the eyes, but i love my alliteration !!

{ Sirens & Muses }
— ★★½☆☆ (2.50 / 5.00)

I feel a guilty giving this one 2.5 stars because I really, REALLY wanted to love it.

The novel tackles questions of privilege, capitalism in art, class, and identity with nuance, and I found myself completely immersed in the studios, critiques, and creative intensity that surrounded the characters. We the readers are taken on a journey between four characters—Louisa, Karina, Preston, and Robert—as they navigate academia, their passions, and personal lives.

While I greatly adored the setting and the atmosphere, the novel lost me in its characters. It was as if I understood their motivations, insecurities, and ambitions but I never felt like I truly knew them. In a way, it was like a written version (though touching on much deeper topics) of Gilmore Girls or New Girl. I found myself enjoying the dialogue between characters much more than their internal narration, and there were moments where I wished Angress had trusted those interactions to reveal who they were instead of explaining their emotions outright. I often felt like I was being told who these people were rather than gradually being shown, which made it difficult for me to become emotionally invested. That being said, I did appreciate the boldness of having multiple POVs, but I did find myself rereading a few chapters after getting confused between perspectives and how the storylines intertwined.

Still, if you enjoy slower, character-driven literary fiction, multiple POVs, and stories that explore art, human relationships, and societal privilege in an academic setting, I would recommend giving Sirens & Muses a try! It may not have been the emotional experience I was hoping for, but I can completely understand why it resonates with so many readers.

hello dear owls and happy friday 🌟 i present to you, my concise description of how i rate the books i consume!

picking up reading again and actually sharing my thoughts with the world, i observed how variable each rating is—although there is some overlap.

so, i am hoping that if you’re on my page or wondering about how i take in writing and stories, this will help serve as a guide!

even all that being said, i have never really sat down and thought about this LOL. but after a week of light reading during my internship breaks, i was able to at least reflect on what makes a book a 1-5 star in my eyes. times get so busy, yet my mind will always drift towards stories… by @xoxofruitbat

i grabbed this book because i love magical creatures, the middle ages/renaissance, and the beautiful cover art.

that being said, i never expected to expand my vocabulary so deeply…

picking up this book after a couple weeks of not reading, i thought it’d be a fun read with magic and historical-fiction x fantasy. and on top of that, i never really got into major decorative annotating—just a pencil and some stickies. this time round, i came across a lot more words i couldn’t decipher even with context clues, so i decided to sticky tab them for research.

300+ pages later, i have over 25 new words to look into on top of the handful of quotes that struck me as i immersed myself into arden’s work. with this being my first book of her’s, i am sooo excited to come across more books of hers and see her personal style across other concepts!!
