NZ's PM @christopherluxon is a criminal.

New Zealand’s treatment of climate change in its new school curriculum has been called “incomprehensible” by University of Waikato climate education expert Professor Chris Eames.

Eames says the central problem is not whether fragments of climate-related material can technically be found somewhere in Years 4–10. It is that the curriculum fails to clearly and coherently connect human behaviour with the climate crisis students are already growing up in.

He says climate-related lessons are “scattered” across different years, while the role of human activity in causing climate change remains absent from the science curriculum until Year 11.

“It’s incomprehensible why climate and climate change aren’t mentioned in the science curriculum ... it’s there at year 11 and beyond, but that’s way too far down the track,” Eames said.

He warns that failing to explain what is actually driving climate change can leave young people without the systems thinking, critical thinking and agency required to understand what they are witnessing and how society can respond.

The curriculum change also comes amid a much broader reversal of New Zealand climate policy. Greenpeace has documented the Government cancelling the Government Investment in Decarbonising Industry fund, ending the Clean Car Discount, moving to reopen offshore oil and gas exploration, weakening vehicle-emissions settings and abandoning plans to price agricultural emissions.

And this is not only Greenpeace’s assessment of the direction of travel. In July 2026, the independent Climate Change Commission found that recent Government actions intended to reduce emissions were likely to be outweighed by other actions that may increase them. It concluded that current policies are insufficient to meet the third emissions budget or the 2050 target without further action.

Against that backdrop, Eames’s question becomes difficult to ignore: if schools do not clearly teach young people the human causes of climate change, “where are they going to get that when they leave school?”

Let Our Words Become a Field for Peace
Our words carry our attention. And where we place our attention matters.
We live in a time when the planet, nature and humanity is facing enormous ecological,
social and humanitarian challenges. Yet enormous resources continue to be devoted to the
machinery of war, with consequences that extend far beyond the battlefield. War therefore
does not merely consume human lives and material resources. It also consumes the
ecological future on which all live depends.
But perhaps the most powerful question is:
What do we want to give our collective energy to?
If we long for peace, let us speak peace.
Let us think peace.
Let us imagine peace.
Let us create peace.
Let us practise peace in our homes, our communities and our relationships.
Rather than giving our language repeated attention to what we wish to end, we can
consciously turn toward the reality we want to create.
Peace.
Connection.
Understanding.
Compassion.
Cooperation.
Reconciliation.
Thriving nature.
A thriving planet.
There is an idea we can take as inspiration from quantum physics: that observation and
measurement play a fundamental role in how physical systems are described.
While this is not a scientific claim that our words magically create external reality, it offers a
powerful metaphor for conscious living:
What we choose to notice, name and continually hold in our awareness matters.
Our thoughts shape our words.
Our words shape our conversations.
Our conversations shape our relationships.
And our relationships shape the world we create together.

So let us become intentional with our language.
Let us give more space to the future we wish to experience.
Let us make peace visible in our thoughts, present in our words, and alive in our
actions.
Because peace is not only something we hope for.
Peace is something we can choose to give our attention to — every day.
May our words become seeds of the world we wish to see.

It is “Show Your Stripes” day and New Zealand doesn’t look any better than the rest of the world.
These stripes do not look good, but today we should be way beyond acknowledging the reality of the accelerating climate collapse. The only thing that matters is what we do about it.

MAY THE FIRST BE WITH YOU-
A Rebel Alliance strikes back against the Empire.

STOP WARS- STOP THE FUEL CRISIS
FREE PUBLIC TRANSPORT NOW
Karanga-a-Hape Station
6pm Friday May 1st

Our Reality: High fuel prices are driving workers reliant on cars off the roads. Our right wing coalition government rules for the rich and doesn't feel the pain of the cost of living crisis. We need solutions, not excuses.

Our solution: Free, frequent public transport for all, funded by taxes on the oil companies and the super rich.

Our Demands:
Immediate free transport as a climate and cost-of-living solution.
Permanent, 24 hr, frequent and fare-free transit for all, paid for by taxing corporations and billionaires.

Prioritize fuel for essential services, not luxury, while transitioning to renewables. New green jobs in a massive expansion of public transport and rail.
