2024 Lifetime Achievement Award

We are so very excited and proud to say that Ed has been honoured with the 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award by @rugbycanada. Ed’s tireless commitment to growing the game of rugby at @stfxuniversity and across the province is truly remarkable. We are so fortunate to have Ed’s plethora of knowledge at our lead year in and year out. We thank him for all his hard work, there would be no @xrfc without him.

Final scores for both Division 1 and 2.

Both sides fought hard and had very good performances.

Div 1 fell short in a very close game, while our Div 2 squad walked away with our first victory of the season!

Dear XRFC,

We gathered for our annual Awards Night to celebrate the achievements, leadership, and dedication that define our club. Ed Carty opened the evening with another legendary message for the boys in blue and white.

The evening recognized players who set the standard both on and off the field:

Rexton Harper, fifth-year veteran, received the Alumni Shield for exceptional dedication and service to the club.

Aiden Sivret, a second-year, earned the Caledonia Award for Most Valuable Player, recognizing his outstanding performances and competitiveness throughout the season.

Mason Fewster, third-year leader, was presented the MacAfee Award for Leadership, honoring his consistent example, influence, and commitment to team culture.

Congratulations to all recipients and to every member of the XRFC community for another memorable season.

Dear St. F.X. U. Rugby Club Community,

We are pleased to announce that the search committee of the St. F.X. U. Rugby Club Alumni has selected a new men’s rugby coach—Brian Blanchard (Class of 88). We are all grateful that Ed Carty will continue in his role as Club Manager.
Brian will move to Antigonish with his wife, Sharon, and begin his duties during the last week of August, finishing up in the first week of November. Brian has agreed to a two-season contract (2026 & 2027) with an option for a third season in 2028.

Ed is “Very pleased - very pleased” with the selection. Brian recognizes “I have big rugby boots to fill.” Rugby Club Student President and player Charlie Kaufield said, “The boys will be ecstatic that Brian will bring his extensive experience to the Club.” Ed coached Brian during the 85-88 seasons, and they have kept in contact ever since. Brian and his wife, Sharon, have many friends in the Xaverian Community and in Antigonish. They are both looking forward to this exciting transition.
