"Major Major Major Major had had a difficult time from the start. Like Minniver Cheevy, he had been born too late - exactly thirty-six hours too late for the physical well-being of his mother, a gentle, ailing woman who, after a full day and a half’s agony in the rigors of childbirth, was depleted of all resolve to pursue further the argument over the new child’s name. In the hospital corridor, her husband moved ahead with the unsmiling determination of someone who knew what he was about. Major Major’s father was a towering, gaunt man in heavy shoes and a black woolen suit. He filled out the birth certificate without faltering, betraying no emotion at all as he handed the completed form to the floor nurse. The nurse took it from him without comment and paddled out of sight. He watched her go, wondering what she had on underneath." by @xsxs.o

My little fireman is 3 years old. by @xsxs.o

"Being in a country at war, one is rarely distressed by the casualties of the invading army. Many Ukrainians, including people who wouldn't even watch action movies before the war, found solace in viewing hours of drone footage of Russian soldiers getting killed and maimed. But in the forest outside Lyman, these freshly dead Russian men, with their civilian backpacks containing their meager possessions, with their sleeping bags and pouches of fever and pain medication, were no longer anonymous and generic invaders. I looked at their faces and felt anger. What have they died for? Putin's megalomania? The wounded pride of old men whose empire collapsed in 1991 just as they were about to inherit it? The Russian idea, whatever it may be? The wife of the owner of the severed hand was probably desperately texting and calling her husband, praying and praying that one tick on his WhatsApp or Telegram messenger would turn into two." by @xsxs.o

@univofmaryland -- This is very sad to make money off of this guy who is dead.

For those who don't know, Len Bias (1963–1986) was a star college basketball player at the University of Maryland, considered one of the best prospects of his generation. On June 17, 1986, he was drafted #2 overall by the Boston Celtics and was expected to become the franchise’s next superstar.

Two days later, on June 19, 1986, he died of a cocaine overdose, which caused a sudden cardiac arrhythmia. His death shocked the sports world and became one of the biggest tragedies in basketball history. by @xsxs.o
