Should startups prioritise attracting investors or building a business with paying customers? According to Mercy Angela Nantongo, Digital Product Manager at Village Enterprise, the answer starts with the customer. On the Finance & Future Tech Show with Mark, Mercy shares why startups should focus on acquiring paying customers and building recurring revenue rather than constantly chasing investor metrics that can change with market trends. Her advice is to explore bootstrapping, generate early revenue, and consider crowdfunding as alternative ways to validate a business idea and fund growth. While investment can provide the capital needed to scale, paying customers demonstrate that a product solves a real problem and that people are willing to pay for it. The takeaway for African startups: Build a business that can stand on its own, prove its value, and create sustainable revenue. Funding can accelerate growth, but a strong customer base gives that growth a foundation. For founders building in Africa, what should come first: securing investment or proving that customers are willing to pay? #FinanceAndFutureTech #Startups #Entrepreneurship #AfricanInnovation #BusinessGrowth #VentureCapital #SustainableBusiness by @xtremebpm
Sometimes, following your intuition is just the beginning. The real work comes next. On Xtreme BPM with Mark-Xtreme, an award-winning violinist, composer and multidisciplinary artist  Nathalie Bonin shares how a difficult season in her personal life led her to imagine a new future in Los Angeles. After trusting her intuition, she developed a three-year plan and committed herself to making it happen. On a tight budget, she took overnight buses from Montreal to New York to attend music workshops, build connections and create opportunities. Those connections eventually helped her secure an interview with Hallmark, opening the door to scoring five films between 2019 and 2020.Her journey is a powerful reminder that following your passion takes more than belief. It takes discipline, strategic thinking and the courage to keep moving, even when the path is uncertain. by @xtremebpm
What if technology could save rural entrepreneurs time and help them access better financial opportunities? On the Finance & Future Tech Show with Mark, Mercy Angela Nantongo, Digital Product Manager at Village Enterprise, explains how digital record-keeping is helping rural savings groups overcome the limitations of paper-based systems. From losing records to spending hours manually calculating savings, traditional methods can create challenges for communities trying to grow their businesses. With digital tools, groups can keep more reliable records, reduce the time spent balancing their books from two hours to just 30–45 minutes, and build a stronger record of their financial activities that they can present to financial institutions. But the real value of technology isn't just digitisation. It's about solving practical problems, saving time, and creating opportunities for people who need them most. 💬 How can technology help small businesses in your community? #FinanceAndFutureTech #EjazzRadio #DigitalInnovation #FinancialInclusion #FinTech #TechForAfrica #RuralEntrepreneurs #DigitalTransformation by @xtremebpm
Before building a product, understand the problem you're trying to solve. On the Finance & Future Tech Show, Mercy Angela Nantongo, Digital Product Manager at Village Enterprise, explains why human-centred design is essential to building solutions that truly work for people. For Mercy, the process starts with understanding the customer’s daily life, challenges, and existing ways of doing things. Rather than assuming technology is always the answer, she explores different solutions, including non-digital alternatives, before deciding what works best. 🎯 The goal? Build technology that fits people’s lives, solves real problems, and is as easy to use as the tools they already know. 💬 What do you think matters more when building a product: the technology or understanding the customer? #FinanceAndFutureTech #EjazzRadio #HumanCentredDesign #ProductDevelopment #DigitalInnovation #TechForAfrica #CustomerExperience #InnovationAfrica by @xtremebpm

How can fintech make payments easier for small businesses? For many small businesses, collecting payments can be a challenge when customers use different mobile money wallets and payment platforms. On the Finance & Future Tech Show with Mark, Georges Bankole, Country Director for InTouch Uganda & Rwanda, explains how fintech can help simplify this experience by bringing multiple payment methods together. From QR payments to allowing customers to choose their preferred mobile wallet, technology can give small businesses a simpler way to collect payments while giving customers more flexibility in how they pay. But as Georges points out, the solution also depends on the payment ecosystem, interoperability and the regulatory environment in each country. The future of digital payments is not just about moving money. It's about making it easier for businesses and customers to transact. #FinanceAndFutureTech #EjazzRadio #DigitalPayments #Fintech by @xtremebpm

Some call it a career. For Amanda Holley, music is a lineage. Growing up surrounded by musicians and witnessing the difficult realities her family experienced in the music industry, Amanda had every reason to walk away. Her aunt, Pat Holley, became a mentor, teaching her about the business, the industry and what it meant to navigate it as a Black woman. But Amanda says she could never escape the music. From theatre and jazz to training major artists, working with Grammy-winning singers and eventually stepping into the recording world, one opportunity led to another. Despite the challenges she encountered, Amanda made a decision: “I’m not going to live my life in fear.” And there is still so much music waiting to be heard. Amanda estimates that 97% of the music in her catalogue has never seen the light of day. 🎙️ Hear more of Amanda Holley’s incredible story on Xtreme BPM with Mark-Xtreme, only on Ejazz Radio. #XtremeBPM #AmandaHolley #EjazzRadio #MusicIndustry by @xtremebpm
