POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

So much history hidden in a name.

Häggbladska Huset. My great-grandfather Emil Häggblad’s landmark home in Västervik, Sweden. More than 100 years later, it still stands on the waterfront bearing the family name.

Growing up, I knew almost nothing about him.

Now I’m learning that Emil was a world traveler, gold miner in Rhodesia, hunter, adventurer, and businessman who built his fortune in Africa. He served during the Boer War era, spoke multiple languages, became a British Vice Consul, and wrote a book documenting his travels across Africa, Europe, and beyond.

The deeper I dig, the more I discover. I learned that the Häggblad name itself traces back to Sweden’s military history. I learned that Sweden had its own naval infantry and that generations of men in my family served in one form or another. As a Marine veteran, that realization hits differently.

There is something humbling about discovering that your story didn’t begin with you.

A century before I was born, a man carrying the same name crossed oceans, built mines, fought wars, explored continents, and left behind a legacy that still stands today.

I spent most of my life not knowing any of this.

Now I find myself wanting to walk the streets of Västervik, stand in front of Häggbladska Huset, visit the mines in Africa, and see the places that shaped the man who helped shape my family’s story.

Sometimes the greatest adventure is discovering where you came from. taken in Austin, Texas by @xxmarkwolfeofficialxx

What a time to be alive. I feel honored to have shared my life changing journey with so many. To do something unconventional to change the narrative is real courage. The true cultural rebel’s move silent in their work. It is not loud, it is not boastful, it is with purpose and love. Changing outcomes is their statement. It’s been beautiful to watch my friends and peers flourish in their lives and be better men and women. The ripple effect is 10 fold. I have lost 15 combat veterans to suicide. Never lose hope. May god bless and keep you close. Be the change you want the world to be. Love and light to you all. taken in Austin, Texas by @xxmarkwolfeofficialxx

This was nothing short of amazing. It was an honor to speak at the Socom Warrior Care Program on the emerging therapies panel. I was asked to speak on the emerging therapies panel. Why I chose the therapy I did? How it affected my life? How it changed relationships in my life? I felt as though I was speaking for 1000’s of voices that have done this therapy. It’s a subject that even two years ago was considered taboo. I was asked a lot of questions and great conversations were had. Everything has to start somewhere and I won’t apologize for wanting my friends to stop killing themselves. I just want to thank April @sofcarecoalition for giving me this platform. She is a warrior and has heart of gold. I would also like to thank my friend @justinlapree for bringing me down this path. Forever grateful. I am part of an amazing team of individuals @heroicpathtolight and I can’t say enough about the education and work they are doing to serve others. This was for all of us in the arena. Keep fighting your fight. Love you all❤️ #health #mental-health #ptsd #tbi #veterans #specialoperations taken in Austin, Texas by @xxmarkwolfeofficialxx

When people tell you they are having a tough day and you resonate here. I remember being so hot that I was happy to jump in that PIG pond and get thrashed just to cool off. Perspective. Grateful this weekend for those I know who are not here to reflect. Cheers 🥃 taken in Austin, Texas by @xxmarkwolfeofficialxx
