This is Adolfo. He was living in a shack made of scrap wood and metal on a mattress donated by a local Dominican family. He was the recipient of one of the homes our group built this week in Don Gregorio. He is an onion farmer, supporting his sick wife. He worked harder than any volunteer and any contractor to help build his own home.

The first day we arrived, he reached out his hand to help me hop across 6 inches of mud into his original home. We were fast friends, always sharing laughs and helping me get photos and I miss him already.

More photos and a video to come. taken in Nizao, Dominican Republic by @xzacktoblade

Festival del Coco 🌴

Image Description:
A girl rolling through the street on a rip stick. Leaving her sister in the dust. A crowd gathered to drink and dance. I met @_calderonpr on the beach. Repping his island. Cats napped on hot pavement. The festival performances continued. The sun fell asleep. taken in Luquillo, Puerto Rico by @xzacktoblade

I went to the Cheyenne River Lakota Reservation in September to document the completion of 4 tiny homes built by the YMCA Alumni and hundreds of volunteers to combat the severe housing crisis happening on this native land. Some houses have up to 20 occupants. And the nearest hospital is 3hrs away. School is far and hard to get to in the winter. Some students miss up to 80 days. The housing crisis is just one of multiple crises. There is a missing and murdered indigenous women crisis. There is also a suicide crisis. I was told when one suicide hits, the town can be on edge because it sometimes triggers more.

Yet, the Lakota people I met were full of spirit. I saw the sun rise over the plains and played the most unserious game of pool at the only dive bar in town with some local natives.

The first video features Jackie Bird performing at the tiny home ribbon cutting ceremony. The second video features Dave West, director of the Lakota Cultural Center. taken in Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation by @xzacktoblade

My first 24 hours in Puerto Rico. I followed a river through Bayamón to the most beautiful waterfall with no one around. Except a dog. Then walked along the San Juan sands. Drove east beneath a setting sun and reached the beach where I stayed for the night.
