I am thrilled to announce that we will be hosting DJ Healthy at Nyapi on October 16. When it comes to bridging the underground between NYC and Asia, I think of Masa as someone who is consistently laying the foundation through his event series, Pacific Mode. Now it is time for Seoul to enter the sphere! Alongside will be some very talented local selectors to provide a special night of dancing. Love against time is an exercise in presence. Jiwon switch - onegram ‘Switch’ is the 2016 debut single of Tokyo-based reggae band ONEGRAM, although the band was formed and active since 2011 as an instrumental band. Formed around saxophonist yath, guitarist Br’z, and bassist Jun Ishida, Sakko joined subsequently as the lead vocal of the group. I’ve always known that the Japanese Reggae scene goes deep but prior experience was mostly in the form of covers. This track, being an original, was already intriguing to me at first glance. It has a beautiful melody and tempo that’s supported by an emotional, almost liquid bass line. Paired with saxophone and reggae guitar strumming, ‘Switch’ sits somewhere comfortably between lovers rock and city pop. This track begs to be played outside, perhaps at a beach party or even backyard hang. Also, I find Sakko’s voice to truly shine in the bridge section, her tone is silky and there’s a sense of melancholy underneath it all. The slow buildup towards the last chorus makes me emotional every time. The B-side is a sick dub remix by Che Que, that features a more stripped-down, reverb & delay heavy version with less vocals. I love how this song makes the room by @y2spirit
