In late 2025, our friends at @gravityrigs reached out with a dream project: building a central custom controller for @tomora —the new collaboration between Tom Rowlands (The Chemical Brothers) and Aurora.

As long-time fans of both, this felt like a massive responsibility and a total "dream come true" moment for the team. The goal was to build the heart of Tom’s mixing station for their live debut at Coachella 2026. Seeing it in action on that stage left us speechless (and definitely dancing).

In the video, Mat gives you a walkthrough of the unit we built—and yeah, it’s a big one!

You probably know @ircam_paris for its pioneering work in music technology and audio research. What you probably didn’t know is that they’ve also designed a custom device that serves as a creative tool for IRCAM staff, researchers, and visiting artists alike.

Introduced to our framework by Richie Hawtin during his 2024 performance, Augustin Muller went on to design “IRCAM 01” with two distinct applications in mind: live performance and his work as an IRCAM Computer Music Designer.

On the one hand, we can mention spatialization control with an ambisonic system in their Espace de Projection hall.

On the other hand, Augustin shares: “I'm currently developing a specific instrument/composition tool which has a strong link to space/surfaces of sound. So the use of joysticks turned out to be really expressive! They allow me to navigate musical spaces in 2D, shaping parameters such as sounds/density and harmony/transformation.”

For over 20 years, @julioindub has been passionate about reggae, and especially about live dubbing. A DJ and part of a SoundSystem collective, he developed his custom controller to fulfill his dream of playing his music live in real time.

“Thanks to this controller, I started finishing my tracks and developing a live dub project that allows me to perform my own productions in many different ways. I add effects such as delay, reverb, and phaser, and I choose when each instrument is played, which gives me real-time control over the sound during performances.”

“Before “LUBU”, I used 2 to 4 different MIDI controllers just to cover all my needs, one for faders, one for buttons, another for knobs, etc. It was messy, inefficient, and required multiple USB connections. With ”LUBU”, I finally have one controller to rule them all.

Creatively, it’s a game changer.
My response time is faster, I always know where everything is, and the physical feedback from the controller keeps me fully connected to what I’m doing in real time. And of course… those arcade buttons...😈”
