𝘑𝘜𝘚𝘛 𝘈𝘕𝘕𝘖𝘜𝘕𝘊𝘌𝘋 🌀New-age jazztronics group YAI (@yai_sounds) will open for Daniel Lanois (@daniellanois) this spring at St. Ann’s Church in Brooklyn Heights!

YAI, the NYC-based duo of David Lackner and John Thayer, are one of our favorite local acts, with a lush, otherworldly sound that echoes Jon Hassell and Ryuichi Sakamoto. YAI’s latest album, 𝘚𝘒𝘠 𝘛𝘐𝘔𝘌, is a dubby mirage of woodwinds and analog synth, slowly unfolding over a grid of billowing rhythms.

✨ Sky Time ✨ has been out for 2 months now, and we couldn’t be more grateful. Huge thanks to everyone who’s listened, bought the album, and supported us along the way. To all who took the time to write about the record – thank you for the thoughtful words and reflections. 💫

✨ Today I had the privilege of meeting Shigeki Fukumoto, the incredible artist whose work graces the cover of YAI’s album Sky Time. Shigeki was so generous in allowing us to use one of his stunning fabric pieces for our album art, and it was an honor to finally thank him in person. 🙏

We enjoyed a delicious soba lunch together, followed by a tour of his studio and his remarkable personal collection of South Pacific artifacts. During the visit, he located the actual piece we used for the Sky Time cover. Sitting in front of it and reflecting on how deeply it feels connected to YAI’s music was a truly unforgettable experience.

To my amazement, Shigeki also generously gifted me a piece of his art for my own collection—a gesture I’ll always treasure. I gifted him a copy of the vinyl, and he was deeply appreciative. Learning more about his work and his expertise in the art of the South Pacific, particularly the people of Papua New Guinea, was inspiring. 🌏

Thank you, Shigeki, for your kindness and for sharing your world with us. 💫
