Every surface in my grandmother's house was covered with a doily she had made. Some were even made by tatting instead of crochet.
She had seven children, six girls, one boy and dozens of grandchildren. And yet, for some reason, she wouldn't teach any of them. Well, she would teach you the chain stitch but nothing more. I came along quite late, compared to most of the other grandchildren, so I have no idea what circumstances lead to her choice.
Once i had become comfortable making hacky sacks, I wanted to branch out and make something else. In honor of my grandmother's memory, as she had passed away by then, I decided to move on to doilies. I got extremely lucky as I found over a dozen old crochet magazines, which focused on doilies, in a thrift store for ten cents a piece.
The pics today are some of the projects I made from those magazines. One is a collar and cuff set, which I made for a lady who was thrilled to find out that someone would still make them. The last is a 55-inch (about 1.4 m) table cloth that took me about 5 months to make. by @yakblithering

I feel a little weird having followers when I don't really post anything. So I will try posting some things. I'll start with the history of my crochet hobby.
I have been crocheting for 27 years now. I have done pretty much every type of crochet items. Doilies, clothing; especially hats, blankets, tablecloths, amigurumi, etc. Ironically, it all started in highschool when I wanted a hacky-sack. (It was back when you couldn't simply buy anything on earth from the internet.) I wasn't happy with the quality of the hacky-sacks available in my area, so I decided to make my own. I only knew how to do the basic chain stitch, so I extrapolated from there. I missed the mark a bit in that I did the whole hacky-sack in slip stitch! 😅 but I did end up with a round ball in the end which I filled with, I believe it was popcorn.
Many years and experiences later and I have a much better pattern and all the right stitches. I even go so far as to use a special blend of plastic pellets and bb's to achieve the right balance of bounce, sag, roll, and weight.
For those who don't know, horizontal stripes only add a few seconds to the production time. When you start to do patterns which include vertical color changes, however, the build time goes through the roof. The 8-ball hacky-sack, for instance, easily took 3x to 5x the amount of time as the regular ones. Also, if you notice on the red and black one, the stripes are offset where the new rows begin. There are methods to prevent that, but it's kind of a tradition to use the offset pattern. Call me sentimental.
