a dried curled leaf, a spider home hangs in space. protection from a tree letting go. I slow down to spider time, the gentle weaving a temporal creation. a breath in the ether

:: my screen time on thursday was less than an hour! I grin at the sign of freedom. I even lost my phone this week - an excellent sign for someone who is usually a cyborg. I want to retain spider time. touch trees not glass. fall asleep listening to the laughter of women.

thank you universe for this gift. taken in Yamanashi Prefecture by @yama____yoga

collaborations with nature.

chaïma tells me she has forgotten the stick that goes with her tibetan bowl in the car. I grin and point at the driftwood behind her. she finds the perfect one and I watch her peaceful smile as she sounds the bowl over and over. taken in Yamanashi Prefecture by @yama____yoga

our september art residency I ask the rain to be my teacher. i forget how closely she listens here and the lesson comes almost immediately. the pipes connecting to our tank are disrupted - cause unknown but potential reasons: landslide, deer or wild boar, debris further up the mountain… and all our taps run dry.

and yet it rains. clean mountain water dripping heavy from the clouds above. so I hunt the shed for buckets and we place them by the gutters as the rainwater fills them. my teacher is close by and murmuring that she is here, even though I’m tired and stressed by the situation. the lessons come even if you don’t feel ready.

how careless I was in my presumption of clean water running through taps - when it is such a gift. I fill the toilet’s tank with rainwater and am amazed that it takes 3 full pots for one flush. I think about how much of the world doesn’t have access to clean water and here I am wasting 5L every time I pee. I make a solemn vow to come back to its preciousness. we spend the week manually filling up the toilet with rainwater, boiling it for dishes and getting cases and cases of clean bottled water delivered.

I remember being with the Indigenous communities along the Baarka, for a corroboree I did as part of uni environmental activism. also known as the “Murray Darling” river it was in extreme drought at the time due to western colonial cotton farming, a thirsty plant incompatible with the land. I remember them telling us their skin blistered when they showered using the bore water the government told them was safe and how they had to wash their babies with bottled water. we raised funds, cried and danced together. I came home and would pray in gratitude, staring in wonder at a glass of water. I lost that awe over time but this week I felt it return, the rain filling up our pots faster than we could keep up with.

thank you 雨の神様 rain. thank you my teacher.

of course after earth and rain element days, for fire day the sun comes out. the following days are warm and dry and we go to the river. making art by her side, as the rain of the previous days sings beside us. taken in Yamanashi Prefecture by @yama____yoga

join us for some saltwater healing + earth care 🌀

bring a mat and a mug and make a friend while caring for country :~)

congwong beach is located in Cape Banks National Park. due to storm water drains, tidal currents and its location near the Cooks River outlet, the beach is regularly impacted by heavy plastic pollution. this has adverse effects on coastal animals and marine life.

we’ll begin the day with some grounding yoga followed by some cleaning up and then a swim. by helping clean up, signing Sophie Scamp’s petition, and being vocal advocates for reform, we can do our bit to protect this precious part of the coastline.

event held on the unceded lands of the Gweagal and Bidjigal clans, Dharawal country

rsvp through the link in bio 🐟
