My body is still recovering from head-banging for an hour straight on Saturday. I haven’t rocked out like that in so many years…Thank you, Bay City, for your awesome energy during our YUM set. Thank you, Cody (@yard_wasted), for reuniting with me to play these songs again for the first time in over a decade. And thank you to Nick and Angela at @bonejackedvtg for putting this incredible festival together and for allowing me to debut my solo material to my hometown. Shoutout to all the other performers. What a great fucking time.

I have some tremendous news to share…

Cody and I are hitting the stage as YUM again for the first time in 10 years.

I was 19yrs old when Cody asked if I wanted to jam. He was 17 — couldn’t legally play in bars yet. I was a bit apprehensive because of this, but went over to his parent’s house to jam in the basement. To this day, I’ve never had such an instantaneous musical connection with someone. It just fucking clicked.

We started writing songs together and officially became “YUM”. Growing up in Bay City and Freeland Michigan, there were limited places to play — and not much of an original music scene. We spent many hours on the road together over the next few years, traveling to and from Detroit and Grand Rapids, playing various house shows, DIY spaces, bars, breweries… you name it.

We released our first self-titled album in 2013. It was recorded in one live session, straight to 1” 16-track tape. I was sick that day, but listening back, my voice cracking only added to the raw punk sound that @andy_reed_producer_engineer captured.

Our next release was an EP that came out in 2016 — recorded at Tempermill Sounds in Ferndale, MI by @davidfeeny. This came out shortly before I moved to Japan. We had a farewell YUM show, I moved overseas, then ended up in Chicago, now out west…

I think of Cody and YUM often. There was something so honest about that time in my life. We were just two kids from small, boring towns. We made each other laugh endlessly, annoyed the hell out of each other, and got our frustrations out through our instruments.

Thank you, @deadstockmi for inviting us to headline this coming August (see details on flyer on last slide). I will also be playing a solo set earlier in the day — my first solo show in the town where I grew up.

More Screech Owls tonight, at least 5 or 6 flying around our house. Managed to grab a pretty decent video through my binoculars of one of them. So cool! taken in Saginaw, Michigan by @yard_wasted

What a thrill, I went to take out the trash and noticed an Eastern Screech Owl staring at me from the tree in our backyard. I ran inside to grab @modillpickles and a pair of binoculars, and a couple more were waiting for us. Just bright enough out to take a few photos! Not pictured were hundreds of fireflies and a few bunnies eyeing up our garden. taken in Saginaw, Michigan by @yard_wasted
