I’m just living that life ❤️‍🔥 25 years of it 🎂 I am so happy with the life I’ve built for myself so far. I don’t often acknowledge my accomplishments so what better day than my birthday. . 17 years of dance, dance teams throughout high school to college and being able go pro on my own has been a blessing. 5 years of modeling with nearly 40 runway shows in the past 3 down by the end of summer, across Texas & in the fashion hubs of NYC to Miami as a 5’6 freelance model. Being an advocate for creatives by sharing my experiences transparently, not gatekeeping opportunity, & believing in collaboration over competition has allowed me embrace the skill I didn’t know I had of community building. #freelancedancer #houstontalent #freelancemodel #prodancer . School was the biggest priority most of my life. I graduated summa cum laude in Math then moved into the corporate world- #corporategirly most of the time. The professionalism I learned and high standard I hold onto has led me to maintain work with multiple entertainment companies in Houston outside of my 9 to 5. The most important part is that I was paid of course but if you’re going to promise media to the models for their portfolio use, you should honor that. . As a freelance model, being booked to walk for a big brand like @saks was an accomplishment. I wish I had something to show for it beyond backstage videos. As insurance to prove that I did it, I always record myself and advise any model does this because you never know if you’ll actually get what you were expecting. Of course, be courteous & only record yourself. . Most of the time, models will get portfolio use out of the runways they do. There’s a few though I’ve worked and had nothing to add to my portfolio from it. Either from not receiving anything or not high enough quality I’d be proud to show. I’m 5’6” but 5’10”+ in heels. Big advocate for representation on the runway! . This is just one example of many runways I’ve booked where I didn’t meet the height requirements and showed up to the casting anyway. Why? The walk matters most. If you can sell it with confidence, then the opportunity shouldn’t be determined by the height, weight, etc. Everybody deserves to see someone similar to themselves setting the standard of beauty. . Despite being taller than the average woman (about 5’3”), models under 5’7” are considered petite. Previously, petite models were overlooked for runway and even less for formal wear (bridal & prom) but the world is changing.
