brown people are wild. brown performances about to headline all sorts of places we couldn't have guessed five years ago. brown energy about to take over. brown concerts be like eight people going to astoria in one car. brown singers be like qawwali and bhangra back to back in the same set. brown photographers and videographers actually workin together so everyone get their shots. brown crowds be dancing from 6pm to 2am without quitting. brown singers be jumping into the audience for 70% of their set.

i turn 40 today
don't be afraid of getting older
it's great
it's an incredible privilege to be old and healthy
i can still run a mile
(probably)
make sure you do your stretches and drink water
show appreciation to your friends and parents
read more challenging fiction and poetry
free palestine
if you have a partner don't take them for granted
if you have kids be good to them
understand the difference between selfishness and self love
support art and artists
stop trying to be "your authentic self" if you don't know what that means
buy a camera
buy a plant
watch a movie that's in another language
compliment a stranger
reflect on your insecurities
be impulsive
get a tattoo get ten tattoos get forty tattoos
play board games
be more curious in conversations instead of mocking what you don't understand
get off your phone these damn kids and their phones
recognize people aren't at their best when they have a bad day
give people grace for having personality quirks that aren't perfect
learn to listen when you need to listen
check your god damn ego
make sure you sleep a healthy amount per night if you can
be more empathetic
sit with your imagination
help other people
be environmentally conscious
watch more comedy
accept critique
eat yogurt and oats and protein daily
smile at the next puppy that you see even if it's a dachshund
listen to your mom and mother in law always except for any comments or philosophies that pertain to tattoos

WELL this was going to be a baby shower post, but a few hours after we ended our shower and went home, baby malik got real, real tired of all these celebrations without him and decided to arrive 3 1/2 weeks early. texting each of our guests "thank you for coming also the baby's here" might have been the highlight of our weekend. well, no, no. the baby being born was the highlight. the main highlight of course, the highlight of highlights. and of course, yes, second place highlight was the shower, thank you everyone who joined us but the THIRD highlight was being able to spread this news. alhamdullilah for our newborn son, iján reza malik blessed us on april 14, 2024 ❤️

also pro tip: have your baby after your shower bc all your makeup and hair will look amazing for the post labor shot taken in New York, New York by @yeahokayali
