Tashi Duncan | cinnamon girl by Lana Del Rey

Challengers is a 2024 romantic sports film directed by Luca Guadagnino and written by Justin Kuritzkes. It follows the love triangle between an injured tennis star-turned-coach (Zendaya), her low-circuit tennis player ex-boyfriend (Josh O’Connor), and her tennis champion husband (Mike Faist) across 13 years of their relationship, culminating in the match between the two men on the ATP Challenger Tour.

In 2006, best friends Patrick Zweig and Art Donaldson win the boys’ junior doubles title at the US Open. They watch Tashi Duncan, a rising star, win the girls’ junior singles final, and both Patrick and Art become infatuated with her. After meeting at a party, Tashi joins Art and Patrick in their hotel room. Tashi asks if Art and Patrick have ever been interested in each other, which they awkwardly deny. She leads all three of them to kiss, pulls back so Art and Patrick kiss each other, then abruptly ends the tryst. She promises to give her phone number to whoever wins the boys’ singles final the next day. When Art asks what she wants out of the match, she states she’d want “to watch some good fucking tennis.”

Pascal’s first choice to play Tashi was Zendaya, whom she knew from working with her on several Spider-Man films, and passed her the script. Zendaya accepted the role, as it would be a departure from the teenagers she was used to portraying, and she felt it was the right time to move into more adult roles: “It was nice to play a character that was not a child anymore. It was also interesting playing parts of my life that I haven’t experienced yet: I’ve not gotten married. I’ve not had a child. Those milestones, I don’t necessarily have a direct reference point for.”

Tate was born on March 9th, 1977 to Constance and Hugo Langdon. Tate was the brother of Adelaide, Beauregard and Rose. Though he alone of the Langdon children escaped visible physical defect, he was very mentally disturbed during his time in the Murder House, in some part owing to his absentee father and neglectful mother, as well as the sadistic influence of the house itself. When Tate was six years old, Constance killed Hugo for cheating on her with their housemaid, Moira O’Hara, though Tate believed that his father ran off and abandoned their family. Constance lied to Tate about Hugo’s fate, both to spare his feelings and to prevent her incarceration. Tate’s sociopathy reached its pex in 1994, when he committed a mass shooting at Westfield High, taking the lives of fifteen students.

Evan Peters was born in 1987 in St. Louis, Missouri to Phil and Julie Peters. When his father’s job was transferred, the family moved to Grand Blanc, Michigan. There, Evan began taking acting classes and at age 15, he moved with his mother to Los Angeles in hopes of pursuing a career in the entertainment industry. His breakthrough role came when he was cast as the controversial Tate Langdon in American Horror Story (2011).
