Chapter 6: Wanderer Of The Land 🏞️🌳🐇

The journey of finally finding one’s self and being one with nature as a wanderer of the land. The state of complete freedom, peace and belonging.

Personally, I feel that being a wanderer of the land is the greatest part of this journey, it is truly going back to our roots, connecting with nature and exploring the earth, feeling the grass beneath you, being grounded and breathing in all the goodness and freshness of the air. To focus on healing within, feeding the soul to feel at peace with yourself, wherever you are in your life at this moment in time. The earth is full of nature out there and nature is a place of freedom, peace, comfort and belonging. When living in the city for so long, we create less of a connection with nature and have less access to green spaces, but during difficult times, we often go back to nature to reflect and heal. This is because it’s in our nature as humans to find trees, plants, water and other nature elements captivating. In a green and natural environment, the mind begins to relax, quiet down, and heal naturally, showing the true healing power of nature that is bestowed on humans automatically.

Through these images, I showcase the above message as being a wanderer of the land through having a true connection to nature in forms of inner healing and appreciation, finally finding one’s self in ultimate peace, contentment and belonging. Focusing on the journey as a wanderer on earth in its final state of harmony with one’s self and the land. Capturing the raw interconnection and true feeling of being whole.

Chapter 5: The Wanderer Of The Sea 🌊

The journey of letting go and finding the calm in the chaos. The wanderer of the sea connects with the depths of the ocean in a state of serenity, stability and boundlessness.

In the ocean where storms and currents create chaos, we can find calmness in the waves. By simply letting go, taking in the depths of the ocean and feeling the gentleness of the waves on our skin, we can find inner peace and heal through our body, heart and soul. The ocean supports this journey as humans naturally feel a sense of serenity when swimming in the sea or simply sitting by the beach and taking in the ocean breeze. Water is a symbol of purity and clarity, and our affinity with it is reflected in the colour blue as we naturally find it calming and healing. It is even believed that the ocean and all the life in it have existed well before life on land began, making it a symbol of life. It is boundless, everlasting, and never changing. It gives us hope and stability, and the ocean’s waves represent faith, hope and joy even in times of distress.

These images focus on the importance of letting go in the midst of chaos, in order to find calmness and inner peace to be in a state of serenity. By simply letting go of our troubles, finding tranquility in the vast ocean and sparking a deep connection with the sea, we can find ourselves in oneness with the earth...feeding our heart and soul with the great energy of the boundless sea which gives us everlasting freedom, possibility and hope throughout our journeys in life.

Chapter 4: Wanderer Of The Sky 🦋🌤️

A wanderer on earth that gets lost in the vast beauty of the sky. Forever falling in love with its colours, clouds and light.

The sky is calm, serene, and loud, changing shapes and ever-present. It is a vast, endless, and ever-changing canvas of colours. It is a place where the sun sets and the moon rises, and where birds fly, clouds drift and rainbows appear. With the pleasure of living on earth, we get the beautiful gift of seeing the sky in all its forms and colours. As sunlight passes through the earth’s atmosphere, tiny air molecules cause it to ‘scatter’ and blue light is scattered more than other colours because it travels in shorter, smaller wavelengths, this is why we see a blue sky most of the time. Other planets don’t have an atmosphere exactly like ours and so their skies look different. Being a wanderer on earth means being able to roam the sky and explore, giving us full freedom and hope. The sky symbolises my desire to explore the world and find peace in life. It’s an endless journey that allows us to go anywhere, it has no barriers and is just waiting to be explored. Personally, I love to watch the sky, its beautiful clouds and how they form, or how beautiful and dreamy its sunrises and sunsets are, with all their colours of red, orange, violet, pink and blue. The sky is so powerful, it can even reflect our emotions and we feel happy when it’s sunny, or sad when it’s cloudy. These images focus on expressing how the sky gives us everlasting freedom and hope to fulfil the journey in finding peace and connecting with our true selves. A state of reflection and appreciation in the sky.

Chapter 3: Wanderer Of The Dark 🌌🕯️…🧚🏼‍♀️

The journey of wandering through the darkness, facing the dark night of the soul and awakening the light within.

It is so easy to get lost and lose yourself in a world so big but as we face our fears and the darkness, we can find the hope and light within ourselves which will only shine bright onwards and guide us onto the right path. Through this journey of self-awakening and discovery, it’s important to let go of whatever is holding us back from moving forwards and making a change in our lives...we must accept the challenge, find hope, face and overcome the darkness, and believe in ourselves to spark the light within ourselves. “Life isn’t just about darkness or light, rather it’s about finding light within the darkness.”

And without darkness, there is no light...without bad things happening in your life, you don’t realise what the good ones are. It is when you are only going through dark days that you know what you’re capable of. Life doesn’t end; it’s rather a new beginning. Through these images, I want to showcase the journey of breaking free from all the darkness and negativity of the soul and awakening the true light within ourselves. When discovering the light within us, we start to reconnect with our true nature and recognise its power...by being the light in the dark, we can spread kindness, positivity, and love. I intend to put a focus on spreading light in the dark as a symbol of hope and positivity, to show that this is an important step of finding one’s self, to let go of the ego and be more interconnected. This shoot makes use of powerful lighting on location and colourful styling to represent light and colour as symbols of hope and positivity in the darkness.

Chapter 2: Wanderer Of The City 🏙️🪷✨

The beginning of a journey to finding one’s self. A state of awakening.

People dream of moving to a big city, people thrive in these fast-paced environments and enjoy the busyness of it all. However, many also become overwhelmed and lose sight of themselves. Others dream of moving away from the city, to live someplace peaceful and curate a more meaningful and consciously slow lifestyle. Personally, I think being stuck in the city for so long can jeopardise our values and outlook on life, we get so used to devoting ourselves to a culture of hustle and prioritising success over wellbeing when really, there’s more to life than all this.

In the state of awakening, also known as nirvana, we become more aware of our individual selves and our connections to life. Coming out of the box and that altered state of consciousness, instead of dreaming about what could be out there, why not start the journey and see it for ourselves? To start an adventure in life and wander the earth, to spark a light in the midst of the darkness. This is the starting point of finding our true identity and learning about our core values.

These images showcase the start of a journey and a state of awakening, finding the courage and enthusiasm to make a path and wander the earth. To be lost yet going in the right direction. In the darkness, we will find the way for ourselves and what lies ahead.

Wanderers On Earth ⋆˚🌏 ࿔*:･ﾟ♡ – The journey of finding one’s self.

Chapter 1: The Mind-Wanderer 💭🎀🧸

A lost soul, wanting to find its way to peace, contentment and belonging. Feeling trapped in the city almost her entire life, she finds herself constantly daydreaming, looking for an escape in her imagination.

In an altered state of consciousness, her mind wanders and wanders but her body is stuck in the exact same place. She is still, yet lost.

Mind-wanderering becomes excessive when we are lost and destructive of our original self, removing ourselves from reality and daydreaming of a getaway, an escape or our ultimate fantasy. Imagining ourselves in an environment of what our heart most desires. This happens when we feel distressed, trapped and stuck in our emotions, and when we’re in the grip of depression, anxiety or obsession. It is our soul, and our pure state of mind calling for change and a way forward.

The soul tells us what we truly need in life to feel whole. It wants us to find peace and feel contentment and belonging.

I wanted to capture the state of being a lost soul in the form of a daydreamer whose mind is constantly wandering but whose body is trapped in their surrounding environment–a room, the box that they isolate and cave themselves in, followed by the despair and destruction of their soul. Thus presenting an altered state of consciousness, “the mind-wanderer”. I intend to focus on the mind-wanderer’s emotions of absence and despair which is followed by a grip of hope and desire.

Isla Dalisay Valmorida loves all things cute, pastel and kitsch, dressing over the top for everything with various upcycled pieces in her wardrobe and she works at her family’s farm in Puerto Princesa, Palawan in the Philippines. 👩🏼‍🌾🐓🌾🇵🇭
