🏙️ Britney Spears - Overproteced (Darkchild Remix).

💥 I believe I explained the impact of the song with the previous drawing of the album version music video. The impact it had on me started with the Britney album enhanced CD upon hearing it to the bts of Crossroads. This Max Martin masterpiece was (and still remains) an anthem of impowerment and self-reliance. I still chant the final lines of the breakdown when insecurities or self-doubts creep up.

📺 Now, this video by @chrisapplebaum gave us one of the sharpest, fiercest and most gorgeous versions of Britney. I am still equally in awe of her looks and choreo. The era was giving. Most generous era of her career, and we still relish in it 25 years later.

⌛ Traditionally, I am serving the sped up drawing process in the last slide as proof of... May.

⁉️ Which version do you prefer: original or remix?

🐍 LIKE THAT!

📺 25 years ago, pop history was made and pop culture was reset when Britney Spears stepped onto that VMAs stage.

⏰ And I remember watching it live on MTV at almost 5 AM local time. Glued to the TV. Jaw on the floor.

🙏 Now, can someone please upload it in proper quality to @britneyspears’ YouTube channel?

🔥 “Boys” & “I'm a Slave 4 U” constitute this album's two Neptunes productions. Both crucial to the musical argument of 'Britney': a venture into a more adult R&B/hip-hop/funk identity. Here with a propulsive, skeletal Neptunes funk arrangement.

📺 Dave Meyers, who had previously directed “Lucky“, fused cameos with a nocturnal dance choreographed by Brian Friedman in the "Boys (Co-Ed Remix)" video.

🎤 The proof that Britney loved the track was seen in its tour resurrections: all of the following tours included it in their setlists. "Boys" also sonically relates B to Janet, who had herself been offered the song beforehand.

🎨 So, no surprise I've yearned to illustrate it, yet in this underrated look with the Y2K half-up updo.

⌛ Traditionally followed up with a process video which shows the rapid illustration process that took 7 hours.

⁉️ Now, which version do you prefer: album or single?

📢 In late 2001, Britney Spears released “Overprotected”, which sounded like immaculate pop and nowadays feels almost prophetic... I remember hearing it for the first time on the Britney album enhanced CD version. After I had heard the badass snippet on MTV Diary, ofc.

🚨 A declaration of independence.

📝 Written and produced by Max Martin & Rami, the song captured a 20-yro Britney demanding the freedom to make mistakes, discover herself and stop being told who she should be.

🎬 The video made that message visual. Directed by Billie Woodruff and choreographed by the legendary Brian Friedman. I dare you to learn that breakdown!

🌍 The original version was a major international release, reaching no. 4 in the UK, no. 2 in Sweden and the Top 10 across multiple European markets. This European boy got the EU version of the video - the original, album version.

🇺🇸 America got a different Overprotected. The Darkchild Remix received an entirely new sound & video treatment for the U.S., which I'm also working on. My god, was this era giving...

🏆 “Overprotected” earned Britney a Grammy nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

🎵 Honestly, this is one of those most empowering tracks I keep in rotation even 25 years after its release, and soon, it will become a tattoo in a form yet to be determined.

Which video do you prefer?

🔴 Britney Spears on the 2001 VMAs red carpet. Even this moment became an iconic plate in the pop culture mosaic. The way she was humble and grounded before making history with the Slave 4 U debut...

🐍 Loving this 25th anniversary 'Britney' album roll.
I'm just hoping the label gifts us with some proper fan goodies.

🎤 So, do we remember this red carpet moment?

People be like: sve je OK, pusti me da spavam.

😁 Da čujem što misliš o coveru 👇

🐍 It's Britmas! This is it!
Well, I wish(ed) and made it for myself in honor of the 25th anniversary of the album 'Britney'; the compendium of pop songs I throne in my holy trinity of albums. A collaborative pop masterpiece with Max Martin.

💡 I was thinking what I would want as a special release from Britney Spears on this occasion, and my mind slapped me with dozens of ideas. One of them had that "a-ha! I can conceptualize this myself" moment. And there you go: Lego meets puzzles. Something I would lose myself in while putting together.

🧩 Even more honestly, it was an exercise transformed into a passion project as I'm relishing in the iconic performances and music videos of the era. So I decided to put the singles in the form of an assemblable kit of building blocks. Therefore, this is not real, alas. But one can dream and create, right? It can be my dream within a dream.

💭 Tell me, which one you'd want the most?
