Two Sisters by Laura Dockrill 🦩

As someone who adored Laura's first novel I was thrilled to get an ARC copy of this anticipated book.
Two Sisters is about Leo/Leonie and her sister Nora. Following Leo's mental breakdown in London, she moves back to a quaint island to live with Nora and her niece.

Just like her first nove, Laura writes late 30s/early 40s women really well. And the nostalgia is there.

The book jars between honest and frank discussions of mental health with humour.

The book felt safe at times with the plot relying on the trope of two siblings with vastly different personalities finding themselves in shared history and family bonds.

Thanks to @hqstories and @netgalley

The book is out 4th June by @yellowchairreader

The Names by Florence Knapp

🎧 audio read

Well this was a roller coaster of a book! Layers upon layers of plot to unpick in each of the three stories. The domestic abuse was hard to listen to but of course it was necessary to the story.
It's a book that will stay with me for a while!

The Wonder of You by Dani Atkins

If you love a story about fate this is for you!
This was such a lovely, heartfelt story. Dani Atkins writes with such warmth and emotion, and I was completely drawn into the characters and their journey.
It’s a gentle, moving read about love, loss, and hope, with characters that feel real and easy to connect with. Emotional without being overwhelming, and beautifully written throughout.
Thanks to @daniatkinsauthor via netgalley for the ARC and @lakeunionauthors
Out 15th April! 🌟

March Round Up
I realise I have been ridiculously poor at uploading my finished books onto this page!
I finished 3 ARC books via NetGalley, one Audiobook and one Kindle read:

'I Stole Your Family' by Daniel Hurst - ARC the 2nd in the series of the Hunt family trilogy. 2 🌟

'Matchmaker' by S.E.Lynes - ARC intriguing premise but didn't work for me. 2 🌟

'Atonement' by Ian McEwan - Audio 🎧 loved this. Slow for the first few chapters but then I was in! Amazing ending. 4.5 🌟

'One of Us' by Elizabeth Day- sequel to The Party. Privilege and revenge. 3.5 🌟

'The Wonder of You' by Dani Atkins - ARC beautiful story especially if you're a believer in fate! 4 🌟

The Good Part by Sophie Cousens

A magical book with a similar storyline to the film Big. What would happen if you could wish to skip to finding your soul mate and live that perfect family life?
I really enjoyed this book once I got into it and I was hooked wondering how Sophie would write an ending...and I have to say I did think the ending was perfect!
The juggle of family life was described with accurate humour.

MotherFaker by Anna Brook-Mitchell
I went into this mostly because the premise sounded slightly ridiculous — in a good way — and I was really curious about how it would actually work. Somehow… it just does.
Barri completely carries the story. She’s funny, a bit chaotic, and very real, which makes even the more over-the-top moments feel believable. The humour lands well, but it’s not just a comedy.
What I didn’t expect was how touching it would be. The relationship with Callum adds so much heart to the story. It takes what could have been just a light, funny read and gives it emotional weight.
Overall, a fun read with more depth than I was expecting.
Thanks to PanMacmillan via @netgalley for the ARC

I Want Your Family by Daniel Hurst

A dark, twisted tale about what happens when someone wants something that badly.

Luna is desperate for a family—and her obsession sets off a chain of events that unravels one family while destroying others. Cleverly plotted and compulsively readable, this story kept me hooked from start to finish. I’ve already requested the next book in the series because I need to know what happens next!

Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid (Audiobook) 🎧

Since finishing this last night, I've been trying to think about what to say about it.

I adored it...all of it! And the ending had me holding my breath! 🚀

Wonderful characters, a heartbreaking love story but full of hope. Joan and Vanessa (plus Frances of course) won my heart! 👩🏻‍🚀👩‍🚀

However...i was waiting for an epilogue! I want to know more!

The Yacht Party by Benedict Brown 🛥

This is my first book by Benedict Brown, I have been aware of his works, which have tended to be more cosy crime.

This book brings together university friends onto a luxury yacht - except they haven't seen each other for 10 years and there is a lot of resentment to discuss!

The book started with a lot of promise. The characters and their backstories are introduced, then the bodies start appearing.

Unfortunately for me, the latter part of the book didn't have the same flow, there was a lot of dialogue which meant the suspense and pace of the book didn't quite work.

Thanks to the publishers for the copy @stormbooks_co and @netgalley

The Forever Home by Erica James🏘

Erica James at her best— rich characters, real dilemmas, and an idyllic setting.

The Forever Home brings together three very different women, each facing deeply personal challenges, and I was quickly invested in all of their stories. Their dilemmas are authentic and emotional, exploring heavier subject matter with sensitivity and care without ever becoming overwhelming.

My favourite character was Venetia. I found her particularly compelling.

Although the novel touches on serious themes, the warmth of the female friendships and the beautiful setting of Hope Hall provide a perfect balance. The sense of community, resilience and support running through the story ensures it never feels weighed down by its subject matter. Instead, it feels hopeful and ultimately uplifting.

A heartfelt, and absorbing read 💛
