Snake in Your Throat explores tension, restraint, and the physical weight of what remains unspoken. The figure is caught in a moment that feels both intimate and unsettling—its gaze and open mouth creating a sense of confrontation that is difficult to look away from.

The snake exists as a metaphor rather than a literal subject. It is felt through the uneasiness of the image—the sensation of something alive beneath the surface, pressing against the boundaries of the body, searching for a way out. The figure becomes a vessel for that tension, embodying the discomfort of holding something in while simultaneously wanting to release it.

The work is rooted in the idea of shedding what we no longer need to carry: anger, confusion, resentment, and the identities built around them. What begins in the gut eventually finds its way to the throat—the final point of resistance before something is spoken, released, and made visible.

Rather than depicting the snake, the painting asks the viewer to feel it.

Thank you to everyone who came out last night. I’m honestly still taking in the amount of support and love I received, it meant more than I can put into words.

A huge thank you to @upticstudios for hosting me and putting together such an incredible event. I’m so grateful to everyone who showed up, shared their time, and helped make the night what it was.

And a special thank you to my friend @ojtrailblazer for DJing and for always being there since some of the very first YG Art ideas. Having people around who have believed in it from the beginning means a lot, and I’m grateful to have you along for the ride.

Growth Has a Bounty is about running headfirst into the futures that feel most true to us and the resistance we encounter when we begin moving toward them.

Growth can create distance. Sometimes the people around us don’t want to come with us. Sometimes they try to hold us in place, attached to a version of ourselves they recognize. And sometimes, there simply isn’t a shared language for where we’re going or how to get there. Moving forward can mean accepting that not everyone will understand the direction we’ve chosen, even when it feels unmistakably right to us.

The title plays on the Western idea of a bounty: something placed on a person or something to be pursued, captured, or claimed. Here, the bounty is the future itself, the life, identity, or possibility waiting on the other side of growth. But the pursuit comes with a price. To claim what is ahead, we may have to leave behind people, expectations, relationships, or versions of ourselves that cannot make the journey with us.

The work sits in that tension between becoming and belonging: the desire to grow into who we are meant to be, and the grief or conflict that can come when that growth changes our relationship to everything around us.
