Backstory: I went skiing for the first time years ago and had a horrible, traumatic experience. I swore I would never do it again in my life!! And I really meant it. This time, I went to the mountain, not to ski, but for the social aspect of it, because they were gonna have bands and DJs for it being the last day of the year. But, since they were closing the mountain much earlier than expected this year, most employees had extra passes that they were giving away.

Joey’s been trying to get me to ski with him since he met me, but I always said: “I’m not gonna pay to suffer” but this time, I wasn't paying, so I decided to give it a second chance—this time with someone who could actually teach me. Was it easy? No! The trauma was so bad that when I reached the top of the hill and looked down, I started ugly crying for a good 10 min. :( I was terrified.

But it wasn't nearly as bad as my first experience. I learned how to control my speed and stop myself, and even though I fell several times and cried a little more, I'm not scared of skiing anymore 👏 I still don't know if skiing is for me. Next time, I'm gonna try snowboarding and see which one I hate less 🙃

Now why was I traumatized?
My first time skiing was with my sister, who was also doing it for the first time. We spent the whole day on a kids’ hill, so small it didn’t even have a ski lift. With no one to learn from, just us 2 trying to figure it out. By the end of the day, she convinced me to try the big mountain at least once before they closed.

That's when my suffering began. I spent more time on the ground and figuring out how to get back up than actually skiing, to the point that she left me behind (I don't blame her). I was left alone, it was getting dark and the mountain was closed. I’d get scared of going too fast and crashing into a tree or a rock so I would throw myself on the ground every time I would get a little bit of speed, literally every few feet, and each time it would be even more painful and require more effort for me to get back up. By the time I finally made it down, I couldn't move a single muscle, it was dark and my family was very worried. My whole body was sore for a full week. taken in Mt. Bachelor by @yenezka

My first Jack and Jill is officially in the books! ✨ It was a nerve-wracking experience!

A big thank you to @laristimuno for stepping in during the second round and helping me calm my nerves so I could enjoy the dance.

So grateful for all the memories created at the @ashevillewinterfestival ❄️—such an amazing festival!
