How was the total lunar eclipse for you?

It was my first. I see from UK pictures that endless grey cloud, as per usual, was on offer.

There were no clouds here, just a terrible if terribly awed iPhone wielder pretending to do ‘photography’. And these are the by turns pitiable and pathetic results.

Quite the show though.

A day off in the sunshine, part 2: Eastney and Hayling.

Ex-military buildings that would surely thrill UrbEx sorts sit secure behind the beach at Eastney, from which you can see the queues of cargo ships en route to Portsmouth, just to the west.

And the tiniest ferry across the impressive currents to Hayling, with the former viaduct piers which once carried the Hayling Billy train until 1963 (you now get to sit in a traffic jam instead).

Lovely.

A day off in the sunshine, part 1: Thursley Common

350 hectares of protected heathland in deepest Surrey, with squadrons of dragonflies and damselflies. Part bog, part wood, with open water areas as well as heathland. Rather lovely.
