Born on August 2 but had a week of celebrations, exactly the way my heart most craved: playing, eating, laughing surrounded by family and friends who feel like family.

What a privilege it is to age — and what a gift it is to get to welcome even more life alongside the woman who gave me mine. To swing a bat with my dad like I’m a kid again. To play with my oldest friend’s baby on the same lawn that she and I used to run around on at recess. To watch my sister and cousin squeal with glee at the cake recipe they just pulled off. To take in deep breaths of humid summer air with my love in a place that I’ve been to for decades. To witness Leo immediately recognize Neula after being warned several times that he’d be very disoriented coming out of his ICU stay. To have a table full of friends I could stay up all night chatting with, not even knowing or caring how many bottles of wine we’ve opened (hypothetically - because aging also means we did all go to bed by midnight).

I never go a day not being acutely aware of just how much love I have in my life, and that really leaves me with very little to wish for. Thank you all for this greatest gift ♥️ by @yeraha

Yesterday marked five whole years that I’ve lived in LA. This was never my original plan — the *plan* was to stay for six months. I’d visited LA a handful of times pre-pandemic and always fell into the same cliche that we all do whenever we travel somewhere nice — look up apartments while picturing an idealized new version of our lives backdropped by palm trees while thinking to ourselves, “hmm, I could really see myself living here.” Except this time, the bit never ended.

I spent my 20s thinking I’d be a New York girl to the very end, no doubt about it. To this day on a weekly basis, I’ll be doing something completely mundane in my LA life, feel my brain focus in on those crazy words, “LA life,” and think, “whoa, I can’t believe I believe here. So random.”

Anyway — here are some of my happiest and most vivid memories from my first year in LA.

My always generous childhood friend Kate picked me up at the airport with flowers so I wouldn’t have to uber alone. After we managed to squeeze my two massive suitcases into the back of her convertible and shut the door, I immediately burst into tears and couldn’t stop sobbing the whole way to my new home, wondering if I’d immediately regret this decision. I called @maddie.tulloch and @bulloch47 in tears all the time — Maddie listened to me blubbering for hours, and Ben lovingly and firmly told me, “Yera, stick it out. Whatever you do, do not just give up and go back home. It’s hard, and it’s lonely, but I promise it’s going to be worth it.”

I breathed a sigh of relief when just a few days later, Austin showed up on my porch from NY — just like I still do to this day when @densagram or @skinnyminiarra or @joanna_widman_french or my family knock on my front door from the east coast. Sweet friends like @kissmyytiara and @katharinafunder and @alyssa_orlando_ sent me gifts and cards and flowers when I needed them, or didn’t even know I needed them.

This period of my life has taught me a lot about distance and friendship and what it means to take care of each other, and what a tremendous gift it is to have multiple people in my life who are happily willing to spend money and time to travel across the continent just to be taken in Los Angeles, California by @yeraha

This just in: Summer still continues to be, irrefutably and undoubtedly and with the utmost certainty, for the girlies (and enbies)!!! 🧚🏼🌸🫧☀️

I started this annual brunch to mark the solstice of the best season, but also because every year, I’m lucky enough to meet so many interesting, kind, creative, warm, talented, generous, loving, multifaceted, open hearted people across LA — people who completely defy the stale stereotypes of this city’s community. I invite both women who I hang out with every weekend and who I may have only met just once — it’s my way of filling tables with those I admire who all have vastly different backgrounds, only to inevitably find everyone shares so much in common.

We just marked our fourth brunch with our most ~whimsical~ celebration yet, and it was made even more special because I got to experience it with the soon-to-be BEST LA girl: my sister.

Long ass caption to say — celebrate the little things with your girls! Get vulnerable with people you’ve just met! Create traditions with your friends! Break bread and build connection! I ♥️ NY — namely: places that feel like coming home, friends who feel like family, lemon potatoes at @villagetaverna, witnessing my friends freshly in love, celebrating my friends’ lifelong commitment to love, @xianfoods, bagels with scallion cream cheese and tomatoes, doing NY things I never even did when I lived in NY, 73 degrees and sunny in Central Park, serendipitously being in the city at the same time as friends who live in NH and LA, happy hour deals that go til 8pm, “let’s just get one more frozen marg,” “should we take a shot?” “who kept buying all those margs last night???” @girlsclubny @girlsclubny @girlsclubny, hugging my mentee tight after almost a decade, @casaadelarestaurant, Proof on Broadway, taking a train up to 125th street for chicken and rice at a random bodega that M went to 6+ years ago, 10K steps a day, the new trains with the navy seats - very chic!, #gayhusbands, meeting my best friend’s community who love him just as hard as I do, @death_bl0w!!!, seeing friends chase their dreams and build the lives they want, watching the only skyline that still gives me butterflies disappear in the window of the Amtrak and swearing I’ll be back soon taken in New York, New York by @yeraha

Left a piece of my heart in the Bay after six days of making every minute count — from holding my best friend’s month-old baby in Marin County, sending kids home with bags crammed with healthy snacks in Oakland, surprising a beyond-deserving community assistant from that same school TWICE (including with Super Bowl tickets!) at our over-capacity event that we finally got to bring to life in SF, to dancing with a lump in my throat to Benito and his courage and creativity in Santa Clara at the MF SUPER BOWL (!!!!!!). We poured so much hard work into this week, and it poured SO much love back into us. I’m still processing it all, but damn, is this proud immigrant girl happy and inspired and grateful ♥️ taken in Super Bowl by @yeraha

Only a few moments from 2025 that made my heart want to burst with sheer joy — the kind for me that, even as you’re living them, you try with all your might to etch into your brain with the wild hope that you never forget any single detail. It was hard to choose just 20, and I don’t take for granted how lucky that makes me.

Many of my most precious memories weren’t documented but were often around a table, or on a couch, or sharing a delicious dish, or holding a beloved friend’s child, or noticing the love in my friend’s eyes when they introduce me to their new partner, or watching someone light up when they tell me about something they’re passionate about.

The world continued to be messy and scary in 2025, but the simplest moments with the people I love so freaking much kept me safe and grounded and whole over and over again. Love you all — honored to share another year in this timeline with you ❣️ taken in Los Angeles, California by @yeraha
