"The goal with this music video was to make it look like a classical painting sprung to life, using bold colours and stylized visuals to tell the epic tale of this classic Greek myth!

The characters are modeled and rigged fairly typically for a basic 3D character. The magic comes when they are run through @blender.official's exciting 'brushshtrokes' add-on, which generates painterly brush-like shapes across the body. These brushstrokes can be altered with simple flowlines, so that they have a painted look following the natural lines and creases of the human face. What results is an expressive stylized character who looks as if they have leapt straight from a painting.

These characters are animated with motion capture, using @hellorokoko's Smartsuit pro to capture a human performance, which is then projected onto the model.

Face expressions are animated traditionally through shape keys, with an expression for 'blink', 'happy', 'sad', and so on. There are over 100 of these individual expressions to capture the subtleties of emotion necessary for the character.

A similar approach was used for the backgrounds, with many of them being run through filters in Blender or through third party software. Great care was taken to avoid Generative AI driven paint filters, instead opting for traditional image-processing and computer graphics algorithms, as these give more control and are more ethical in their use!"

"Keys To Ascension was the last time I had the honour of recording with Steve, Chris, Alan and Jon, and had that whole period been handled better by those around us, then I believe it could have led to the five of us creating more music in the years that followed, but as that never happened it makes Keys to Ascension even more special and unique and without realising it at the time, marked the end of a recording era for what many still consider the classic YES line up."

- Rick Wakeman

Keys To Ascension: The Studio Recordings is available to pre-order now on gatefold 2LP, limited edition yellow 2LP (available exclusively at the Official YES Store), and 1CD formats.

'Record Collector Presents... YES' follows the twisting, multiple time-signatured, six-decade tale of the progressive pioneers who became synonymous with the sprawling musical adventures of the genre - as well as its indulgences.

Tracing the story right back to the early '60s and the band’s roots in beat groups and psychedelia, before an album-by-album journey through their early '70s rise and imperious pomp, onto the acrimonious splits, reinventions and '80s rebirth, right up to their new album 'Aurora', whose development is discussed track-by-track by current YES mainstays Jon Davison and Billy Sherwood.

In-depth archive interviews with Jon Anderson and Steve Howe offer a career-spanning overview of the band from its defining players. Add to that Record Collector's choice of the top 40 rarities, essential deep cuts and bonus tracks, plus live albums, solo work and side projects, comps, videos, memorabilia and a seven-page discography, and you have the ultimate consumer guide to YES. All that’s missing is the gatefold sleeve...
