Had a great day exploring the Agawam harvest festival, found some fabulous paper Christmas trees, and ventured to another local park for a walk. Note the dragon fly too soaking in the sun. And yes we had to begin bringing in the outside plants inside. Sad but beautiful. by @yesrising

I find it alarming that anyone could be so dismissive of unity, particularly at a time when our political divisions are so pronounced and the stakes of participation feel so high.

Should people throughout the country have similar thoughts about not voting because they take issue with candidates over money, issues, perceived shortcomings, or simply because they don’t like their brown shoes?

It leaves me bewildered.

We can’t always get what we want the first time around. We may never get everything we want. But the point is that we keep trying. We keep inching forward—not by alienating others or putting their ideas down, but by joining together and welcoming all voices to the table.

Looking at the bigger picture means connecting the dots. Seeing how we can get there. Taking action together. Helping each other, even when we know there is more work left to be done.

An open letter to my fellow brothers and sisters, in America and abroad:

In an age of anger, isolation, and division, perhaps kindness is more than a private virtue. Perhaps it is one of the essential structures that allows a society—and humanity itself—to thrive.

The time has come to become the words we speak.

The time has come not to remain silent about what we see and hear, but to find joy in something new and exciting—something bigger than our isolation and something better than the fear and anger that too often run our lives.

Because we are so much more than that.
