🗒️ There are many false narratives (lies) about the Black community and adoption. Let’s check the lies and replace them with the truth. Which lies have you heard?

❌- Black people don’t adopt-
💁🏾‍♀️ Who said that??

Truth: Yes, we adopt and do. We have done so for years - informally and formally. There’s an entire village of people. We just don’t always share on social media or tell everyone our business. Follow #blackadoption or #Blackandadopted

❌- It’s hard to find Black people who want to adopt-
🔎 Where are you looking??

Truth: No, it’s not. There are many individuals & couples interested in providing a loving & safe home for children in need. AND if you can find Black first/birth parents why can’t you find Black adoptive or foster parents? Check out @mkadoptionservices or @noiradoptions (Black-owned service providers.)

❌- Black people aren’t qualified to adopt-
🥊 Wait, what!?

Truth: Yes, we are. We are more than qualified. Oftentimes caseworker and counselor biases inaccurately disqualify us.

❌- Black people can’t afford to adopt-
🤫 Watch your mouth!!

Truth: Yes, we can and do. If needed, there are non-profits and corporations who provide grants. Check out @WATadoptions (a Black-owned non-profit.) What we need to discuss is how some agencies lower their service cost to adopt Black children. i.e. sliding scale. Are Black babies worth less?

We will continue to shout from the mountain top that Black family preservation is priority. AND Black first/birth moms should have the option to select Black parents for their Black child. No more lies‼️

We are not done! Meet two new scholars in our #ProofOfPossibility series!! 🎓

Samantha aka Dr. Sam is a late discovery adoptee (LDA) who went on to earn a PhD in Organizational Leadership. She is half of the dynamic duo, @blacktothebeginning_ , who helped rewrite the blackadoption narrative and algorithm with their podcast.

Chaniqua aka Dr. Uzi earned her PhD in Sociology. She used her love for writing to write her own story. Her journey wasn’t a straight line, nor was it easy. What she lacked in support, she created with her own village.

If you’re reading this as a parent or caregiver, let Dr. Sam and Dr. Uzi remind you what’s already living in your child. Not the file. Not the label. The brilliance.

We’re still building this list — if you are a scholar or you know a scholar who should be featured, tag below or DM us.

Class is officially in session. 🎓

Swipe through this ENTIRE carousel, because these 11 scholars have something to teach all of us.

Each one has a story with foster care and/or adoption — and went on to earn their PhD or Doctorate. Eleven brilliant minds who took a narrative that was written about them and rewrote it themselves. Line by line. Degree by degree.

Here’s the truth: our community is not defined by trauma. We are not case numbers, statistics, or “hard placements.” We are scholars. We are experts. We are proof.

And if you’re a parent, caregiver, or someone still writing your own story — this is for you too. It is so easy to let a statistic, a diagnosis, or a hard chapter convince you of what a future can or can’t hold. But statistics don’t get the final word. Brilliance does. Curiosity does. Resilience does. Community does. Look for the proof of possibility already living in the people around you — in the way they problem-solve, the way they love, the way they show up as exactly who they are. That is where the future gets written, not in a file or a label.

This is why #ProofOfPossibility exists — because representation changes what we believe is possible, no matter where we are in our own journey. When someone who shares this story is standing in their PhD, that’s not just inspiring. That’s a new chapter being written in real time.

And we are not done. This is just round one — we’ll be featuring a few more scholars next week, and we know there are more stories out there. If you know someone who should be on this list, tag them below or DM us their contact info. Let’s keep building this list together.

So take your time with this one. Read every name. Sit with every story. Share in the comments — which story is teaching you something today?💜

To our scholars: thank you for rewriting the narrative out loud, for all of us to see. School is in session, and you are the lesson. 📚✨

Welcome! 👋🏾Some of you are new here.

I’m Stacey, the founder of Yes We Adopt (YWA). I created YWA for community, not a brand, for individuals and families connected to kinship, adoption, or foster care who deserve real conversation, not silence, unicorns or rainbows.

This month, Yes We Adopt school is in session.📓✏️ We will learn and unlearn together. Our subjects this month include: kinship care, suicide prevention, and a new series called the ‘Proof of Possibility.’ I’m also opening the Adoption Talk workshop later in September to help you navigate the conversations that matter most.

Fun facts:
- A few of my favorite things besides my family & faith are: ☀️, 🎶, 😂, 🏖️, 🍷
- I believe love is an action word.
- Truth & dignity early is always better than secrets & shame
- I am a proud board member of Adoption Knowledge Affiliates (AKA)

Glad you’re here. Say “Hi”👋🏾 in the comments. What do you want to know or learn? 💜

Fifty-three years. The New York Knicks are finally champions. And I cried — not just for the orange and blue, but because my dad isn’t here to see it.

He’s been gone twelve years. And he would have been the first person I called.
Two days ago was his birthday. Father’s Day just passed. And somehow, the Knicks won 10 days before his birthday. If that’s not him showing up, I don’t know what is.

I’m a basketball fan because of my father. He made me — one game at a time. The Spectrum in Philadelphia. Madison Square Garden. Sitting next to him on the couch, learning what it meant to love something deeply and stay loyal through the lean years.

But basketball was just the beginning.
He taught me how to stand tall. How to serve others. How to go into deep water without fear. How to love fiercely.

Now I watch my son go for a layup — and I feel my dad in every cheer.

Absence does not erase presence.

To everyone in our community holding this differently — the adoptees, folks in foster or kinship care, those who found their father in their adult years or never found him at all — a father’s fingerprint doesn’t require his presence to be real. It lives in your genetics, your gifts, your face, your fire.

We are allowed to hold grief and gratitude at the same time. That’s not contradiction — that’s wholeness.

To my husband — thank you for showing up the way my dad showed up for me. Loving, firm, kind, and present.

And Dad — Knicks in 5. They finally won! Happy birthday. I know you’re celebrating in heaven, jersey on. 🧡

Swipe through and tell me — whose fingerprints are all over your life? Drop their name in the comments.

Some of the most important conversations we need to have as parents are the ones we don't feel like having. 🫣

The ones that feel uncomfortable. The ones we think we can delay. The ones we tell ourselves "they're not ready for yet."

Here's what I'm learning: The parents who show up best for their kids aren't the ones who avoid the hard talks.

They're the ones who say: "I don't want to mess this up, but you deserve the truth. So let's figure it out together."

That's courageous parenting. And it starts with showing up, even when it's uncomfortable.

This month we're talking about the conversations that matter. Follow along. 💜

Holding Both: The Space between Joy and Grief
Our stories often live in the space between joy and grief, love and loss, gratitude and questions.

Not everything needs to be solved. Some things simply need to be acknowledged and held.

When did you first realize that love and loss could exist in the same story?❤️💔
