One month ago I quit my job.

I thought the biggest challenge would be finding enough freelance work. It turns out the bigger challenge has been learning how to recover from burnout while building a business at the same time.

I've had to accept that healing isn't linear. Some days I'm full of ideas and energy, other days my nervous system reminds me I've spent years running on adrenaline.

This first month has been full of massage clients, DJ gigs, event planning, poetry, radio shows, slow mornings, freelance enquiries, stretching, dancing, journalling, saying no, saying yes, and slowly remembering who I am outside of work.

I don't have everything figured out, but I know this: I don't want to build a life that burns me out again.

These are a few of the lessons this first month has taught me.

Glorious sunshine, bare feet on the sand, the tide slowly pulling back to give us more space to dance… yesterday was magic.

There’s something about a beach dance — the air, the light, the way the music hits differently — it opens people up. You could feel it.

Thanks @valness.space for the warm up.

I had a few hugs at the end that properly got me 🥹
Those quiet “thank yous”, the eye contact, the shared feeling of we just went somewhere together.

And then singing round the fire after… soft, warm, connected. Just gorgeous. Thanks @iamizzyadams

I really love holding space like this through music. It means a lot to me.

And waking up to messages from people saying what it meant to them… that hits deep.

I quit my full-time job to have a better work-life balance and somehow ended up with approximately 47 different jobs. 😂

One minute I'm managing a conference, the next I'm massaging someone's shoulders, and then I'm behind the decks presenting my radio show on 1BTN.

Welcome to the wonderfully chaotic world of freelance life.

Would I change it? Not right now. There's something pretty special about getting to do so many different things I love.

Now if I could just figure out how to squeeze in a few more days off... 🙃

The first corner of my new flat to be properly set up. Priorities! 🪩🎶

Still plenty of unpacking to do, furniture to find and things to sort, but my little music studio is up and running!

Spending this evening prepping for Tuesday's UFFTE Presents on 1BTN Radio. Discovering new tracks, playing around with mixes and getting completely lost in the music.

I bloody love DJing. ❤️

And it feels so lovely to have a little creative corner of my own again.

New home, new studio, lots more music to come. 🎧

Hi everyone, I’m Yvette from Yew Studio. I offer Jing Method deep tissue massage at Haven Therapies in Seaford, with treatments tailored to you, whether you’re looking to ease muscle tension or take some time for yourself.

After a busy few weeks, my books have reopened to new clients, and I have these appointments available:

✨ Tomorrow, Monday 12 October at 6pm
✨ Wednesday 14 October at 6pm

Wednesday 21 October is fully booked, but other appointments are available on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Treatments are £60 for an hour. 💚

First mix in the new flat! 🐆🎶

The decks are finally set up, the leopard print PJs are on and I'm getting stuck into prepping for next week's UFFTE Presents on 1BTN.

Tonight's little experiment:

12 months of newsletters! 🥹❤️

Which got me thinking about just how much has changed in a year.

I'm writing this from my new home in Hove, slowly finding my feet, making it cosy and getting used to having the city on my doorstep again.

I'm surrounded by some really inspiring women at the moment. Creative, kind, ambitious women who are doing brilliant things and reminding me how lovely it is to have people around you who encourage you to grow.

And work? Well, it's a bit of everything really 😂

Events at Brighton Dome, massage clients, learning, DJing, radio, a bit of writing and whatever else I seem to have said yes to that week.

It's not exactly a conventional career, but I'm really enjoying the variety. I love that I get to work with my hands, be creative, meet interesting people and be part of making things happen.

There are still plenty of unknowns. I'm still tired, still figuring out how to make it all sustainable, and my new home is very much a work in progress.

But I feel inspired. And excited. And increasingly like I'm building something that actually suits me.

A year ago, I don't think I could have imagined quite what this next chapter would look like.

Anyway, a little Friday reflection from me. And thank you to everyone who's been reading my newsletters over the last year. It means a lot. ❤️

🌿 ONE YEAR OF A MOMENT OF YEW! 🌙

A whole year of monthly letters, little life updates, poetry, music, massage, movement and everything in between.

When I started this newsletter last October, I had no idea quite how much life was about to change.

Since then I've quit my job, taken the leap into freelancing, played festivals, started my own radio show, developed my massage practice, moved house (again!) and written my way through all the messy, beautiful bits along the way.

A Moment of Yew has become a little monthly diary of it all. A space to share what I'm learning, what I'm creating, what I'm listening to and the things that make life feel good.

Tomorrow's October edition is all about finding my feet in Brighton, being held by wonderful friends, learning to slow down and making a home for myself. Plus a new poem I've written as a little love letter to myself. 💚

Darling, let me hold you. ❤️

A little poem about being held, being loved, and having somewhere soft to land when the world feels a bit too much.

I've been thinking a lot lately about the different ways we care for each other. The small things. A blanket, a candle, a favourite song. Someone noticing you're tired before you've even said anything.

And how sometimes the loveliest thing we can offer someone is our time, our attention, and a little bit of quiet.

I hope you've got someone who makes you feel like this. And I hope you're finding ways to offer yourself the same kindness too.

Seaford, I’ve opened up some massage appointments this Sunday 11th October 💆‍♀️

If your shoulders have been living somewhere around your ears, your back is complaining, or you've been telling yourself for weeks that you really need to book a massage… this is your sign 😂

I’m Yvette, a local massage therapist offering Jing Method deep tissue and therapeutic massage. My treatments aren't one-size-fits-all, we can focus on specific areas of pain and tension, or simply give your body an hour to properly switch off.

I’m currently training further in Advanced Clinical Massage, so my approach combines relaxation with more focused work where your body needs it.

A few days of packing up one life and starting another. 📦🌈

Boxes everywhere. One ridiculous rainbow sky to say goodbye. Road closures thrown in for a little extra moving-day chaos 😂 and some bloody wonderful friends who turned up and helped me move my entire life.

And then slowly… unpacking.

Flowers on the table. Fairy lights up. Candles lit. Finding places for things. Starting to make somewhere unfamiliar feel like mine.

And in amongst all of that, little glimpses of my new life here.

Walking to the beach. Sunsets. So many skies. Apparently I still get my sky fix in the city. 🌅

Massage learning. Getting a massage myself (VERY needed). Back to treating clients.

And tomorrow I'll sit down in my new home, open my laptop and do my events work from here for the first time.

I'm absolutely knackered 😂 and there's still plenty to sort out, but it's starting to feel less like I've moved into a pile of boxes and more like I've actually moved home.

One little bit at a time. ❤️
