A legend was born in this small Mississippi city, and somehow, almost a century later, people are still coming from all over the world to see where it all began.

Tupelo was home to Elvis Presley before the world knew his name. He was born here in 1935, in a tiny two-room house built by his father for just $180.

A year later, the city was devastated by one of the deadliest tornadoes in U.S. history. Little Elvis survived. And from this very modest beginning came a life that would eventually change music forever.

Today, almost 130,000 people visit the “Elvis Presley Birthplace” each year, they say. Not bad for a lil house in a small Mississippi city. 🎸

Some places become famous because history happened there. Tupelo became famous because someone happened there. 💜

Hattiesburg was a lil hard to categorize 🤏🏽… which might be exactly what I liked bout it.

Historic brick facades, an old theatre still holding onto its glamour, little pieces of Americana, Mississippi music history.. and then you turn a corner and Pocket Alley is turning doors, utility boxes and brick walls into public art. 🫠

Old next to playful. History next to someone’s imagination.

Small cities can have a lot to say when you actually look around. 💜

Old-world architecture should live forever. ☝🏽

New Orleans feels like a city where Europe never quite left: wrought-iron balconies, old facades, French Quarter streets, streetcars passing through layers of history… I guess that’s another reason I find this place so characteristic. This kind of atmosphere is hard to find in the U.S., and when you do find it, you somehow feel connected. If you know, you know..

And then there’s the jazz. Oh my… Not only was jazz born here, it lives here. From hotel stages to street buskers, music doesn’t feel added to the city, it feels built into it. At every corner, day and night. And isn’t that amazing? 🤩

And somewhere between all that architecture and jazz… Louisiana seafood entered the chat. 🦀 There’s no single headliner in this city everything gets its moment.

A little French, a little Southern, weathered around the edges, loud when it wants to be… and completely unmistakable.

New Orleans has its own thing. 🎷⚜️

And the building behind me? It looks like it could have inspired a Disney château, but nope.. That’s St. Louis Cathedral. The cathedral that stood here was completed in 1794, while the structure we see today largely dates to its 1849–1851 reconstruction.

New Orleans felt less like a city and more like a stage.

Saints above the altar, jesters hanging from balconies, tarot cards on the street, masks in windows, painters at work, voodoo dolls staring back at you (and some of the scarier things were only allowed to live in my memory)

Gritty, strange, theatrical, a little dark, and completely its own thing.

Some cities you visit, while others perform for you.. New Orleans did both. 🎭

It’s all in the details, in how you see and where you choose to look.
