I’ve realized that school is not my thing and the only one who can motivate me to work is me.. not assignments. :/ Now that I’ve embraced games as a medium, it’s been a whole new world full of learning curves. I now have to be super obsessive about organization, which actually happens to work with my personality☝️😵‍💫🧠

There’s too much to say about Nanny aka “Nanorama” aka Mary. Only real Nanny fans get it.. Our matriarch, our creator. 😭

I was always proud of her growing up. Because she was old and strong as hell and had curly hair and was always punching the shit out of bread dough or hugging and squeezing us and smacking our butts.

As we both got older and I started to feel her slipping away, I’d try to ask her about moments in history she’d experienced. Like, what was it like when the Beatles first came out? ..Elvis? She really had no comment on either. And then I remember, she was born when The Fridge was just coming out. She’s seen it all. No one has given less of a fuck about an iPhone. Nanny grew up with a wood stove and horses to get around on. She didn’t go to high school, she worked on the farm and moved to the city to cut hair so her siblings could go to school. Her head was in the game.

Because of her, I’ve had the luxury of not needing those kind of blinders. I can think about all the Beatles I want. But lately, I’ve been longing for the responsibility of working for a physical reality. She had her own dimension- Nanny’s house. Which smelled sweet of bread and twisty buns. And every day I’m reminded of her in things like cutting cabbage and playing cards.

The last time I saw her was before I moved, and I told her I admired her and her life’s work. (Because I am so profoundly thankful for it, for my life, for all my aunties and uncles, everyone.) As I was leaving, she kinda said “bye” a few times like maybe she was a little out of it, or maybe she knew it’d be our last. But then I got this other feeling, like I knew I’d see her again. And leaving the room, it didn’t matter where we were or what year it was, because it felt as though we were at her old house, like I was walking down that narrow hallway.

And at the same time, death always feels unresolved and grief is a headfuck. Holding her little spectacles from when she was a girl is so weird. But it makes you think….Objects hang around because we have no use for them anymore. People leave because nature has other plans for us. She’s like Girl, hold my glasses I’m going in.

In 2016 I was 17 and had a massive ego and was mad all the time. I was either busy being p!ssed off or else dr*nk and under4ged at bars.. it was a loud and tumultuous year.! I was singing in a band and had an older friend group, there was lots of fireball and hotline bling..🤳🪩 the world felt so big. Even though it was just sk0hans 🤣When I look back at how much growing up I had to do that year it’s interesting to notice how I dealt with it, which was to try to brute force push my life ahead and ahead, and even though I was busy(for a teenager) I was still restless.. I was searching for that feeling of the world being big… & I felt shattered when it started to close in on me again. And I also hated myself and my body! 🤭🙄 BUT,,,,amidst all that bs I was also making lots of art and had the bestest friends in school and we were SO funny together and we laughed so much ❤️‍🔥 by @ygretz
