While we stay warm and dry... Let's remember our Community Health Workers - walking through rain, mud, and cold to care for others.

They don't stop because the weather is bad. They keep going because our communities need them.

This season, honour their sacrifice. Speak their names. Support their journey.

Join our "Walk a Mile in Their Shoes" campaign.

📢 DAY 1: YOUR VOICE MATTERS! 🗣️💜

Young people are not just the future of our communities; WE ARE PART OF THE PRESENT! ✊🏽

As we approach Election Day, let's start a conversation about the issues affecting our communities and how we, as young people, can advocate for meaningful change.

💭 QUESTION OF THE DAY:

If you could change ONE thing in your community, what would it be?

👇🏽 Check out our Top 9 Youth Interests in the graphic, comment with your number, and tell us WHY this issue matters to you! You can also share an issue that isn't listed.

Your voice matters. Your experiences matter. Your participation matters. Change begins when we speak up, listen to one another, and take action together. 💪🏽

📲 Let's get talking! Share this post and tag a young person whose voice deserves to be heard.

🗳️ LAUNCHING: #VoteWithKnowledge - Creating Informed Voting 🗳️

Your vote is your voice. But do you know how powerful it really is?

The YMCA is launching a new campaign to equip young people not just to vote, but to vote with understanding.

This campaign is about more than Election Day. It’s about connecting the dots between the ballot and your daily life , your job, your safety, your education, your housing, your community.

OVER THE NEXT FEW WEEKS, WE WILL BE:

📚 EDUCATING - Breaking down elections, voting procedures, local government and how democracy actually works for YOU.

🎤 BUILDING - Teaching you how to identify problems in your community, back them with evidence, and engage the right decision-makers.

🔍 PROMOTING INFORMED CHOICES - Helping you verify information, understand the real issues, and make YOUR OWN independent decision.

🏘️ CONNECTING - Showing how public decisions directly affect employment, safety, education, housing, and services where you live.

✊ GOING BEYOND - Encouraging action that doesn’t stop after voting - community monitoring, civic engagement, and real dialogue with leaders.

This is not about telling you WHO to vote for. It’s about making sure you know HOW, WHY, and WHAT your vote can do.

Stay tuned for youth turning votes into action. Your community needs your voice.

Follow #VoteWithKnowledge and let’s build an informed generation together. by @ymcaathlone

🎀💗 YMCA ATHLONE WEARS PINK! 💗🎀

Today, YMCA Athlone stands together in support of Breast Cancer Awareness, wearing pink to show our solidarity with those affected by breast cancer, honour survivors, remember those we have lost, and encourage hope for those still fighting. 🌸💕

Breast cancer awareness starts with education, early detection, and supporting one another. Let us continue to encourage regular check-ups, know the signs and symptoms, and remind the people we care about that they are never alone in their journey. 🎗️

At YMCA Athlone, we believe in building healthier, stronger and more caring communities. Today, we wear pink not only as a colour, but as a symbol of compassion, courage, unity and hope. 💗

Together, we can raise awareness, inspire action and make a difference.

🎀 Wear pink. Spread awareness. Stand together.

🏀 More Than Just a Game!

We’re excited to see our new basketball programme growing within the community! What started as an introduction to a sport that was not yet widely recognised has quickly gained momentum, with more young people joining practices and getting involved.

Through basketball, the YMCA is creating a space where young men can build confidence, learn teamwork, communicate, manage conflict, set goals, and develop respect for themselves and their community.

The journey continues, and our young athletes are looking forward to their first games! 🏀💪

Building skills. Building character. Building community.

Another chapter comes to a close. 📖✨

AGM 2025/26 was more than just a meeting, it was an opportunity to reflect on our journey, acknowledge the work accomplished, and set the foundation for what lies ahead.

Grateful for the lessons, the people, and the memories. Here’s to the next chapter! 💫

Every Thursday, we wear black. Not as a trend. As a promise.

Today, we're sharing the reality of gender-based violence in South Africa. One in three women will experience physical violence in her lifetime. Nearly 10,000 rapes were reported in just one quarter. Over 140,000 rape kits sit untested. These are not just statistics. They are our mothers, sisters, daughters, and friends.

On 21 November 2025, South Africa declared GBV a national disaster. The government acknowledged the crisis. Now we need action.

This is our weekly campaign. This is #ThursdaysInBlack. We refuse to stay silent. We refuse to normalize this. And we need you to join us.

Here is what YOU can do right now:

1. Wear black every Thursday and tell someone why.
2. Save these numbers in your phone – they could save a life.
3. Share this video with everyone you know. Awareness saves lives.
4. Check on the women in your life. Ask them if they are safe.
5. Speak up if you see something. Silence enables abuse.
6. Support survivors – believe them, listen to them, stand with them.

📞 Need help? Reach out. You are not alone.
GBV Command Center: 0800 428 428
SAPS Emergency: 10111
TEARS Foundation: 08000 83277
Childline: 0800 055 555

Your voice matters. Your action matters. One post, one conversation, one call could save a life.

Wear black. Share this. Act now. Join us.

🧼 Clean Hands, Healthy Futures! 💙

Our Rylands Community Health Workers (CHWs) were out in the community promoting the importance of good hand hygiene among Educare learners! 👐🏽✨

Through fun, engaging health education, learners were encouraged to make handwashing a daily habit — especially before eating and after using the bathroom. 🧼💦

By teaching healthy habits early, we are helping build healthier, more informed communities for the future. 🌱

A big thank you to our Rylands CHWs for continuing to take health education beyond the clinic and into our communities! 💙

Happy National Women’s Day from YMCA Athlone! 🇿🇦🦋

Today, we honor the 70th anniversary of the 1956 Women’s March. We remember the 20,000 women who marched to the Union Buildings and declared, "Wathint' abafazi, wathint' imbokodo" — "You strike a woman, you strike a rock" .

Their resilience reminds us that empowered women truly empower nations . This year’s theme calls us to celebrate the strength of every woman shaping our families, communities, and country, while we continue to strive for a future of equality and safety for all .

To the women of South Africa: You are the story. Today, we celebrate you. 🤍
