✨ TODAY’S REMINDER ✨

Not every battle is visible—sometimes it happens quietly in the mind and heart.

In moments of stress, overwhelm, or uncertainty, your feelings are valid. Healing is not linear, and it’s okay to take things one step at a time.

You don’t have to face everything alone. Support, safety, and community matter—and help is always within reach.

🌿 When anxiety feels loud, grounding yourself in the present can help.
🌿 When thoughts feel heavy, speaking to someone you trust can make a difference.
🌿 When life feels overwhelming, pausing is still progress.

📌 “It’s okay to not be okay—but it’s not okay to stay there alone.”

💬 We’d love to hear from you (only if you’re comfortable):
What’s one thing that helps you feel grounded when things get overwhelming?

🤝 If you or someone you know needs support, reach out—your community is here for you.

❤️ Tag someone who might need this reminder today.

🌍💙 Global Learning, Local Impact!💙🌍

Last week, we had the incredible privilege of hosting our international friends from Borough Community College and CIEE as part of their exchange programme with YMCA Cape Flats.

Our nursing students joined our dedicated Home-Based Care and Community Nursing teams, walking alongside our healthcare workers, visiting community members, and experiencing the heart of compassionate care in action. 🩺🏡

From meaningful conversations to shared experiences and plenty of laughter, it was a week filled with learning, cultural exchange, and unforgettable memories. The smiles on their faces say it all we can confidently say they had an amazing time while making a positive impact in our communities.

At YMCA Cape Flats, we believe that bringing young people together across borders creates opportunities for growth, understanding, and service that extends far beyond the classroom.

We are grateful to be part of their exchange journey and look forward to creating many more moments of connection, learning, and community together.

Thank you to our Home-Based Care team for welcoming and inspiring our international guests, and to our exchange volunteers for embracing every experience with open hearts.

Today we got to meet our short term volunteers from the United States of America , ready to get their hands in on our programs.

🌍🤝 Welcoming Our New International Friends! 🩺💙

We are excited to welcome an incredible group of 4 students from CIEE who come from various universities and community colleges in the United States of America, all pursuing studies in the medical and healthcare field

Their passion for learning, service, and community engagement aligns perfectly with our mission of creating meaningful impact at grassroots level. Together, we look forward to sharing knowledge, building connections, and working side by side in our community programs.

This is more than an exchange it's an opportunity to learn from one another, strengthen global partnerships, and make a difference where it matters most.

Welcome to the family! We can't wait to begin this journey together. 💙🌎

Today was more than just a presentation it was a conversation about the realities shaping the lives of young people and families across Mitchells Plain.

At the Lentegeur Sub Council Stakeholder Engagement, the leadership of Voices of the Plain and our research team presented findings from the community research journey that began at our 2025 Stakeholder Engagement held at the YMCA Cape Flats Campsite.

What emerged was a powerful reminder that the challenges facing our communities are deeply interconnected. Youth unemployment affects mental health. Family pressures influence school performance. Gang activity impacts community safety. Limited opportunities can affect a young person's sense of identity, belonging, and hope for the future.

Our findings highlighted key themes including:

🔹 Mental health and emotional well-being
🔹 School environments and learner support
🔹 Community safety and gang influence
🔹 Identity, belonging, and youth participation
🔹 Trust in institutions and community structures

The purpose of this work is not simply to identify problems, but to better understand how these issues connect and where opportunities exist for meaningful collaboration and change.

A sincere thank you to every stakeholder, community leader, organisation, and young person who continues to contribute their voice, experience, and insight. Real change begins when communities come together to listen, understand, and act.

The voice of the community matters. The voice of young people matters. Together, we move from understanding challenges to creating solutions.

A great day of impact, learning, and opportunity! 🙌✨

On 27 May, our IYF Project team visited learners at Levana Primary School in Retreat and I Can Academy in Park Avenue, engaging young people around pathways to personal growth, skills development, and future opportunities.

Through our partnership with RLabs and the Zlto Initiative, learners were introduced to valuable opportunities that can help prepare them for the future. One of the key highlights was the Learning to Earning (L2E) platform – a free online learning portal designed to equip young people with the skills needed for today's digital and professional world.

📚 The platform offers FREE courses in:
✅ Digital Skills & Technology
✅ Artificial Intelligence
✅ Communication & Teamwork
✅ Graphic Design
✅ Cybersecurity
✅ Career Guidance & Job Search Skills
✅ Entrepreneurship & Business Skills
✅ Professional Growth & Employability

Participants can learn at their own pace, earn certificates of completion, and gain practical skills that improve their readiness for further education and employment.

At YMCA, we believe that every young person deserves access to opportunities that unlock their potential. By connecting youth to learning, technology, and career-focused resources, we are helping build a future where young people are empowered to thrive.

A special thank you to RLabs, Zlto, the educators, and the learners who welcomed us and participated so enthusiastically. Together, we continue creating pathways from learning to earning. 🚀

Last night was something special 💙🔥

Our Cape Flats YMCA Youth Night brought together energy, talent, and community in the best way possible. From the moment the youth arrived, the vibe was set connection, laughter, and purpose all in one space.

A big shoutout to Majestic for blessing us with an original rap performance 🎤 real, powerful, and straight from the heart.

We’re incredibly grateful to Aunty Ruwaydawhose constant support and generosity made sure everyone was taken care of with meals. Your impact never goes unnoticed 🙏

This night wouldn’t have come together without the dedication of our youth leaders Zee, Rivonne, and Ruwayda alongside the amazing YMCA Ravensmead Youth, Y-Zone kids, and our Holiday Programme youth from Camp Road. You all made the night what it was ✨

Moments like these remind us why we do what we do building community, creating safe spaces, and empowering the next generation.
