one really hilarious and funny thing that happens when you move away from the hometown you hated to your core and were convinced was the very thing rotting you from the inside out, is that you’ll realize gave you perspectives and (survival) skills you want to protect with all your being.

a lot of days i find myself disconnected from the west coast mentality and homesick to the point of grief, which is dumb because the world is burning and i’m actually doing alright now. but i sat down one night and this song (last slide) sorta fell out of me and now it exists and it’s gonna be out in a month or so which is terrifying !!!!

spending the first 25 years of my life where there’s always some random insane shit going down (usually someone sparking up conversation and feeling like they’re starting on you but they turn out to be sound - slide 8), trying to be creative in a world where creativity isn’t necessarily looked down upon but just … looked at out of bare confusion (slide 4) - all of this has had a fundamental impact on how i move in the world and how i view my own projects. i never ever had the resources or the community to make anything proper, but you make do with what you can and see where it gets you. the more i experience the world and meet people who haven’t had to learn resourcefulness and sticking it out, the more grateful i am and the more fiercely i want to protect that part of me with everything.

P.S. seeing literally everyone at home buzzing right now is giving me fomo so if you could all pack it in and commence good vibes when I’m home next month it would be much appreciated x

Digbeth’s creative culture has helped build Birmingham’s modern cultural identity, but now the £1.75bn Midlands Rail Hub could see more than 50 independent businesses demolished or displaced.

among the venues at risk are @thenightowlbham, @xoyobirmingham, @mamarouxsbham, @club.colette and @luna_springs_digbeth.

this Sunday, @saveoursceneuk is putting on the SAVE DIGBETH BLOCK PARTY - bringing the city together to celebrate a scene worth saving.

I used to feel this way when I was maybe 15 but then I grew up and realised it was actually just this wildly internalised sense of 1) unwarranted self-importance ignited by a bullshit “gifted and talented” label (do not believe the hype btw) and 2) reinforcing the class hierarchy ???? not to mention incredibly insulting and dehumanising it is to see people say “life would be so easy if I liked crushed velvet and watched ITV2!” we are not 15 anymore and beautifully curating our tumblr urls maybe take that inferiority complex offline and stop projecting onto people who are probably, most likely, sound :-))) also no shade to my hackney gyals with substacks but truly if you’re describing someone as an NPC you truly have to be doing some groundbreaking business yourself imo by @ynes.fm
