Here are 5 easy ways you can prioritise youse health and well-being this September;

1. Time blocking. Carving out 20 minutes to an hour for yourself a day to read, walk or even nap can help to reset your nervous system.

2. Before your coffee or your favourite fruit in the morning, have a glass of water.

3. Keep a journal, it’s a great way to keep track of all the great things you do but it’s also a good way to decompress from a busy day.

4. Setting your clothes and accessories out the night before. This can help save a few minutes the next day but also it helps give you peace of mind. (One less thing to think about!).

5. Whether it’s a little movement or a lot, it all counts and it’s so helpful for our mental state. Find a class that works for you and commit to it for the month at least. See how you feel come October!

We hope you’re stepping into September beautifully. We can’t wait to see you on the mat or the machines 🍂 taken in Bromley, Bromley, United Kingdom by @yogawithshi

One of my biggest lessons as a teacher has been the concept of an offering.

Some teachers are dynamic, other teachers have a slower restorative practice, some students like to be upside down straight away, others prefer something more sustained. All is good and marvellous.

But the fact is I am just me. Shi. And my life, my experience of the day, my background will always influence my practice and the lens I see the practice through.

That will not be for everyone but it will resonate for those it is for. Hence, an offering.

When students step on the mat with me. There will be an experience of me. From the music I choose, to the warm up we flow through to the words I share. I offer myself on the mat and the opportunity to take what feels best and what is needed at that moment. From me to you.

I say all of this to say, as a new teacher there can be such a pressure to fit everything, to be everything to everyone. It’s simply not possible. But you are your offering. And even if some people don’t like it. The fact that you are whole heartedly you, sharing what you love about the practice, that is always something to respect immensely.

Take pride in your offering. taken in London, United Kingdom by @yogawithshi

It’s nearly one year on you ☀️

I can’t believe it. Like actually. What the hell?!

The sleepless nights were hard, the manual labour was harder but we bloody did it. I had a dozen rejections on rentals in Bromley and I also rejected a few myself. I was too close to competition or too young (said one landlord… literally), I had to be ready to be kicked out at any time incase someone with more money came along (said another landlord literally) or the place just simply wasn’t big enough for the things I wanted to do.

I then reconnected with @rhinoboulder_bromley and I couldn’t be more grateful to Henning and Thomas. They believed in my vision and helped me see it through.

I’ve since found a team of unreal teachers, amazing clients and I’m making Equinim a home. Equinim means balance and the middle way to me, but it also stands for the faith in myself I didn’t always see, the trust in my abilities that I didn’t always feel, and the space to be held when others didn’t quite know how to hold me.

This process hasn’t been easy 😅 but wow I can hand on heart say I’m so so proud of me.

Thank you to everyone that knew I could do it! I did it! And thank you for the people that show up for me 🥹 I’m forever grateful. Equinim you are the best parts of me materialised. To the first anniversary 🥂!

Proof of life ✌️

Guys! It’s me! I hardly post anymore 😭 how are you? How’s your mum? How you coping with the weather?!

The weather is getting stunning. My flip flops are out but most importantly… I’m actually finding a balance with my self practice again since opening Equinim.

I’ve learnt sooo much over this past year. Some stand outs are the importance of community, sticking to your values and understanding they are an extension of your integrity, Cloud foam tastes a bit like crap but trust and believe your local coffee spot will charge you up the wazzooo for it 😅.

I can’t wait to share more with you 🤗. What are some lessons youve been learning this year?

Hi, my names Aisha (Shi) and I’m an over worker 🤓.

Give me sumn to sink my teeth into and better believe I’ll hyper fixate 💃. I love long hours, little breaks and wild last minute deadlines and activities.

But my nervous system does not!

I started Radical Rest last year because after a little affair with Yin (being very faithful to the yang practice for years gimme a break) a couple years back, I fell in love with the slower practice. Not because I even thought I wanted it, but clearly my body needed it.

I’m on a mission to help over workers and nine to fivers feel the importance of long holds and the deep benefits of deep fascia release. Our body holds tension in places our emotions won’t let us go. So let me tell you the stillness can be scary. But along with the sultry sounds of my bowls, and my love for caring and holding space, I’ve got you and you’ll be okay.

I have now taught 3 sold out Radical Rest events (a short break since opening Equinim but will be back) and help lots of people in London who are over worked and under rested. I especially love helping people from the global majority unwind for loads of reasons but one mainly being we are usually offered spicier identities by society and very rarely get to sit comfortably in softness. So much so some of us recognise it as laziness. Can you imagine?!

If my thespian mates at university taught me one thing, it’s that rest and wellness is something we should all be able to afford.

I say it all the time but boy do I love Croydon. By popular demand, as of tomorrow, I will be doing weekly Yin and Soundbowl classes in Croydon. The first class is nearly sold out, and so if you’d like to come get in touch.

8:15pm
1 hour or juicy yinny goodness.
£14 a class
