🇸🇸 SOUTH SUDAN | FIVE CANDIDATES & A NEW POLITICAL SCENE

Is South Sudan really entering the electoral competition phase?

By Lilian Rizk
September 26, 2026

South Sudan’s political landscape appears to be entering a new phase, with five prominent names announcing or confirming their intention to compete in the presidential race scheduled for December 22, 2026:

1. Salva Kiir Mayardit SPLM- IG
2. Cornelius Kon Nguo United Democratic National Front (NUDF)
3. Tijwok Hather Agwet Independent candidate
4. Dr. Issa Mzamel Sebte Mikelili National Patriotic Movement (NPM)
5. Peter Mayen Majungdit Liberal People’s Party (PLP)

Important: Announcing an intention to run does not mean a candidate has been officially approved. The National Election Commission has yet to publish the final presidential candidate list.

The bigger question is no longer simply who is running?

Has voter registration begun?
Can candidates campaign nationwide?
Will citizens have meaningful access to the ballot?
Can the electoral process be managed transparently and securely?

If the December 22 election proceeds as planned, South Sudan could face a political environment increasingly shaped by campaigns, programs and votes rather than transitional agreements and power-sharing.

The real test is not the number of candidates it is whether a credible electoral process can be built before election day. by @yohanakok

🌧️ Friday, 6:00 AM | USA 🇺🇸

There’s something incredibly peaceful about waking up to the sound of rain.

The quiet streets the fresh air the cool morning sky and that gentle sound of raindrops make this one of the most beautiful ways to start the day. Sometimes, you don’t need anything extraordinary just a peaceful morning, a little rain, and a moment to breathe.

Good morning, everyone. ☕️ 🤍
May your Friday begin as peacefully as this morning feels. by @yohanakok

South Sudan 🇸🇸 | The Living Soil Handbook

A book worth sharing with you all. 🥰📖

This year, I’ve finished reading 8 books on organic farming and watched and listened to 30+ hours of market-gardening content on YouTube. After all that, The Living Soil Handbook by Jesse Frost has earned a place among my Top 5 agricultural books.

What makes this book stand out to me is how practical it is. It goes beyond simply growing crops it teaches you to understand and work with the soil as a living ecosystem.

For anyone interested in organic farming, no-till agriculture, ecological market gardening, soil health, or building productive farms with fewer external inputs, I highly recommend this book.

“Agriculture that focuses on living soil is not an innovation; it’s an apologetic response to the many wrongs forced upon the land and for the attendant harm and loss suffered by many people.”

This is probably my favorite sentence in the entire book.📕

It completely changed the way I think about farming.

It reminds us that building healthy soil, protecting biodiversity, reducing unnecessary soil disturbance, and farming in harmony with nature aren’t necessarily new inventions. In many ways, they are a return to principles that agriculture has depended on for generations.

And for me, this hits particularly hard when thinking about South Sudan 🇸🇸.

We have enormous agricultural potential. But the question shouldn’t only be:

“How much can we produce?”

It should also be:

“How do we produce more while taking care of the land that will have to feed generations after us?”

That is the kind of agriculture I want to learn, practice, and promote.

Healthy soil → Healthy crops → Healthy communities. South Sudan 🇸🇸🌱
