POSTS STORIES REELS

During lockdown, I sat on my sofa after watching “In the Mood for Love”, still and in shock as memories came flooding back about my childhood, about my family, especially about my mom. I burst into tears for an hour. I learned that I had a great childhood. I had a good mom, a mom who would do anything and give anything she could to you. And I was holding onto grudges, hate, and anger toward her when she decided to leave us. “ROMDOUL,” the story of the movie, was born from there. In order to confront the truth, I learned that I needed to find the truth. For me, cinema is a way to make sense of all of those. I was slowly finding the light to show what my dream was. I bought a ticket to Cannes. I prayed and wrote down my wish.

In my 30s, I learned the power of NOW and boundaries. I learned when to attach and detach. I learned to love myself enough to say no if others demand my time and energy. I learned that the less crowd is okay, but less joy is not okay. I learn that live life to the fullest. There is no right time! There is only time to start. I finally learn to confront my own dream, what I truly love and want to do for the rest of my life. It’s being a filmmaker. I did a lot of things, from festival director to artist manager, concert producer, ... so many things. I learned that I chose all of those things not only because they brought me joy, experiences and financial support, but also because I wasn’t ready to confront my own dream and passion. What if it didn’t work out? I chose not to take it seriously. This year, I got the opportunity to join Factory Philippines, having my short film produced and screened at Director’s Fortnight at Cannes. It’s beyond words to describe. Standing there on that stage, I remembered being one of the audience members. My heart is full. Now, I’m learning that I need to give it 100%, all of myself. I’m learning that I was born with this gift, the gift of being a storyteller. I’m in the era of “Welcome to all the possibilities, and it starts NOW!”

My second film, “Romdoul, the Evening Fragrance,” is starting now.

Happy 40th Birthday to my idol and personal boss lady @lauratevary ❤️

To more sunsets together, more cities to get lost in, more random adventures, silly laughter, beautiful memories, and of course our little arguments. Because even when you drive me crazy, there’s still no one else I’d rather argue with than you.

We’ve seen each other through so many versions of life, the beautiful, the messy, and everything in between. I know there were moments I could have been softer, more patient, and better with your heart.

But if there’s one thing I wish for, it’s more time. More moments, more sunsets, and more of this crazy beautiful life with you.

40 looks beautiful on you, and I hope life gives you all the happiness your heart deserves. Some people are simply irreplaceable, and you will always be one of mine. And if I could revisit certain moments, I would hold your heart a little more carefully 😭❤️‍🔥 by @yokicoco
