'Waterloo Wonder'

I'm proud to say I brought the @lightpost_co debut fashion showcase to life for a sold-out audience.

As co-organiser and host of the night, it was a privilege to bring together a collective of emerging creatives from across the Midlands, presenting a range of cultures through original garments and artistic expression.

We celebrated the vision and individuality of local young fashion designers, highlighting this generations innovators and cultural torch-bearers.

Thank you to everyone who attended and supported this milestone event. Your presence helped make the evening a memorable success.

The Summer Issue serves as a visual exploration and a reflective question: Who are you becoming?

This edition, featuring @reissdantae and @gold.ak1 as 'Artists of the Summer,' looks at “becoming” through personal stories, contributions from people within Lightpost Arts, and narratives from the larger community. Lightpost Arts, previously Lightpost Theatre Company, remains dedicated to empowering young Black men and creatives in the West Midlands by promoting resilience, wellbeing, and self-belief.

The research and visual direction for this issue came from an ongoing exploration of Cuba, especially Havana’s mid-century culture and visual scene. Its print culture, interiors, and social spaces created an ambiance filled with warmth, texture, and rhythm.

This atmosphere forms the basis for how the issue tells stories and creates images. by @yokiowalker

My time with @lightpost_co, has come to a close.

Lightpost has been a significant part of my development as a Cultural Producer. I've had the opportunity to develop publications, produce events and showcases, build partnerships, create opportunities for artists, and help shape the organisation's creative direction.

I'm proud of what I contributed and what I learned through the process of building something from the ground up. Being nominated for 'Young Leader of the Year' at the #IYA26 @inspirationalyouthawards in my first year of the role was a meaningful recognition of the work and growth that came from that experience.

None of it happened alone. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed their time, ideas, talent and energy to making those publications and projects possible. To the writers, photographers, designers, artists, performers, producers, volunteers and everyone who trusted me with their work, I’m genuinely grateful. by @yokiowalker

The pre-celebration shoot at Tricorn House brought together some of the Black British artists to be featured in Lightpost’s upcoming runway showcase. Unpacking the importance of Midlands representation in fashion and the wider creative industries, centred on Birmingham as both context and catalyst.

Our discussion challenged long-standing London-centric narratives and explored the realities of access and opportunity.

I recently spoke on the @_volkanic podcast to offer my insights in opportunity creation 📈.

Volkanic is built by GEN-Z to support the next generation 🤝. They develop the human skills of young people in a world 🌐 post covid and with AI.

Volkanic's motto is young people aren't alien, they're just a different generation® and the purpose of their podcast was to give young people from varied backgrounds the opportunity to weigh in on the conversation around "GEN-Z" and the reality of being young in a world after covid and with AI.
