A TRIBUTE TO EVERYTHING THAT BREAKS is an anime-inspired performance that unravels a breakage. Staging a perpetual negotiation between control and resistance, drawing on the aesthetics and emotional intensity of neo-noir anime. This performance examines the erotization of violence while exposing a subtle progressive deconstruction.

At the intersection of performance, visual art, and dance, Yoko Haveman constructs a hyper-stylized language that oscillates between restraint and rupture where the work exposes power structures in anime as well as Japanese notions of ‘Lolicon’ and ‘Hikikomori’. Central to the work is Haveman’s ongoing artistic research into the body as a living archive of memories and transfiguration. Rather than submitting to binary archetypes prevalent within anime, docility versus monstrosity, it hybridizes this dichotomy to reveal an unpredictable, complex, and self-determined character.

The Artistic Exchange Residency between Uferstudios in Berlin and Bau in Amsterdam is in the books. Interdisciplinary artists Yoko Haveman and Claire Vivianne Sobottke were switching cities.

Yoko was at Uferstudios earlier this June and worked on UNTITLED #637, a project in which she studies tension as a physical, external force acting upon the body. Claire arrived in Amsterdam end of June and took up her research project Étude de Chasse (WT) — a choreographic and musical investigation into the history and practice of hunting.
