🚨SK83 (The Prequel) is finally out in the world🚨Written over the course of an 18 month period, beginning back during the covid madness in 2020, my ambition from the start was to tell part of my own story through club music. Traditionally, a lot of electronic music albums wouldn’t be so thematic or narrative heavy, but I felt this would be an interesting take on an electronic album.I’ve always had a progressive approach to my music; particularly larger bodies of work, and I’ve maintained a conscious ambition on how music from Ireland is perceived. I hope the intention of the record translates well and that it’s another positive contribution to the wider music scene here in this country.Although the album is deeply rooted in the sounds of the underground (breakbeat, jungle, drum & bass) it’s not designed for the club. SK83 is designed as a journey through a universe and a time. A story with a clear beginning, middle and end that’s brought to life thru sonic personalities and story-telling performances by some amazing artists.SK83 is a concept album told thru the raw and rugged sounds of UK bass music - but at its core, the subtext of the album is really a love story. Both literally and metaphorically - all wrapped up in the narrative of a young man’s coming of age. For those that joined the listening party recently, a lot of the stories behind each of the tracks were explained - but I hope those of you that listen can find your own meaning and connections as you journey thru the record.For now, I hope you can take a step into the SK83 universe and enjoy a journey that explores the emotions and events that colour a teenagers journey to adulthood - from love and loss, first-time experiences, the pitfalls of peer pressure and the unmistakable pull of the city’s intoxicating rave culture.This is the Prequel. There’s a really special feeling that’s hard to explain when you see something you’ve worked incredibly hard on come to life for the first time. Taking these shots for the album recently gave me time to reflect back on the whole creative and artistic process of SK83 and what a journey it’s been. Even as my own worst critic, I can definitely say that I’m incredibly proud of this project and body of work. I’ve given it everything I can emotionally, creatively and artistically and now it’s only a couple days away from release.I really hope that everything I’ve given the project translates into an incredible music and listening experience for those that choose to listen. Before sharing context for the video above, I just want to say thank you to everyone that has supported the album in different ways over the last year. It means a lot to know your work really connects with people. THANK YOU. 🟣 Retrospective: SK83 (The Prequel) One Year On 🟣What initially started as some late-night experiments in sound during lockdown, slowly evolved into an artistic journey I hadn’t planned, and I really wasn’t expecting.Looking back now at the long days of writing SK83, I can appreciate it was a beautifully cathartic experience. Although, I didn’t fully realise it at the time. It was laborious and emotionally tough in parts, but joyous in so many others. It made me dig deeper than I ever had before, and drag every bit of me back out and into the music. At the time I knew I wanted to make this album; but looking back a year on, I realise I also needed to make that album.Hand on heart, it’s the realest and most honest thing I’ve ever made. Thank you to everyone who’s lived with it, messaged about it, played it loud, or alone. Although very personal, the universal themes within it have resonated beyond me, and that connection with the music means more to me than anything.The journey continues soon, with more new music on the way. In the meantime, there is still a very limited amount of vinyl left for anyone who wants to hold a piece of it. There will be no repress once they’re gone. “ALL BACK TO MINE”I put a playlist together for RTE Culture recently. Link pon di bio. 🚀“For this playlist I was inspired by the legendary Back To Mine series on Ultra Records. I used to collect them growing up. It was always a really interesting insight into some of my favourite artists’ wider music tastes. More often than not, they’d all be into vastly different music to what they’d create themselves, and you’d find some absolute gems in there.So in the same vein, I’ve put together a collection of tracks I love to listen to when I’m not producing music or DJing myself. Some of the tracks here have inspired me on my own musical journey over the years and some for when I want to detach from the intensity of creating and writing music.
