Makan is thrilled to present Youm Wara Youm (Arabic for “day after day”), a new collaboration with multidisciplinary artist Yomna Mohamed.

this five-color Risograph 2026 Arabic calendar and artist book draws inspiration from Egypt’s local calendar-making traditions and the bold vernacular aesthetics found across the Arab world. It celebrates the everyday printers, publishers, and visual languages that shape our cultural memory.

Yomna’s practice spans graphic design, photography, and print media, exploring Egyptian and Arab visual culture and the ways domestic ephemera become acts of authorship. She works between New York City and Alexandria, Egypt.

💖قلب شادية (Shadia’s Heart)

My latest project…This 6ft × 5ft blanket draws from those widely circulated across Africa and the Global South.

The blanket functions as a graphic archive, mapping visual systems found in Arabic products across the region. These objects collapse distinctions between the personal and the commercial. Makers and craftsmen often sign their work with their names, their children’s names, photographs, or personal contact information, treating authorship itself as a central design element.

Throughout the work, my personal email and full name appear in large, alongside photographs of my father. Phrases like “May Allah Give You Warmth,” Apple logos, Lacoste icons, and thumbs-up symbols are layered into the composition.
