Jazz is one of those genres I’ve been listening to since I was in my mom’s womb. 🎶

Last night Yoni Mayraz offered more than a show. The music the trio took the audience into a meditative state, with the bass (@tom_driessler) and drums (@zoepascal) dictating the rhythm and the keyboards (@yonimayraz) painting the landscape.

With this show, the ALT JAZZ series opens a new chapter, one in which music comes to offer balance, inviting introspection while letting the mind wander free, unburdened by the daily worries.

No matter the genre you are into, jazz sits at the foundation, being a medium that can both construct and deconstruct realities.

As with every show, the intro and the outro are of equal importance as the headliner, and @drudrums came to complete the story, showing he is not only one of the best drummers of the new generation, but also an amazing selector.

@yonimayraz ‘s show comes this Monday, September 28, at Control, opening the jazz season in great style. Filled with influences from hip-hop and funk, Yoni explores and merges many dimensions of jazz in his productions, playing with layers of atmospheric sounds while keeping his focus on the melody.

Sometimes modern jazz experimentation starts to feel too academic, pushing people away from the dancefloor and the listening room. When this happens, the joy of music and the sense of discovery get swallowed under the heavy legacy of the masters. Some, Yoni Mayraz included, manage to get the best of both worlds, while showcasing an energy so radiant it sticks with the audience.

Yoni Mayraz is one of the artists who fit perfectly in the tag of ‘a rising artist you must not miss’.

Local drummer, selector and DJ, @drudrums will be on decks opening and closing the night. Dru’s groove-driven aesthetic takes his DJ sets to a level where every mix of genre and tempo is possible, creating stories that take the audience to immersive places.

Jazz headz, we are so back! ❤️

We continue this season our collaboration with @blackrhino_radio to showcase forward-thinking jazz artists who explore the intersection of different genres and cultures.

Following this path, we’re very happy to announce that keyboardist and producer @yonimayraz will open this season of ALT JAZZ, coming to Control on Monday, September 28, in a stellar trio format with Zoe Pascal on drums and Tom Driessler on bass.

Mayraz will make his debut in Bucharest, playing tracks from his latest album ’Dogs Bark Babies Cry’, released last year at PPK Records. On the album, you will discover compositions and grooves that weave together elements of 90s hip-hop, Middle Eastern textures, and electronic soundscapes, while echoing the sound of the great 70s jazz-funk trios.
